Satyajit Ray was a great
by Billu Plumber on Apr 14, 2009 11:59 PM  | Hide replies

but in our illiterate country there is a tendency to go nostalgic and get emotional beyond control. I hope we can start admiring our living legends like SRK same way for their contributio the way we admire the dead ones. Peace!!!

Man you are not getting the point are you???
Its about the vision. SRK is 1000 times more visionary than SR simple because his films have spread sophistication in the society. People today hang out in a more chilled way than what they were before SRK. People talk differently thanx to him. There is more love and warmth in the society, esp in metroes andmales have become more responsive to females in a respectful way. The reason is the ultimate hero produced by SRK, Rahul/Raaj. Got it?
No other masala serious film maker is even close enough simple because they were too much in love with their work and could not see past their egos. Hence their Masal Serious FIlms are only appreciated in limited circles and will continue to be so till they start respecting other people's opinions.

Satyajit Ray v SRK
by Billu Plumber on Apr 14, 2009 10:29 PM  | Hide replies

I think SRK is more talented, (multi talented) man than Satyajit Ray. His films have introduced a more relaxed India to the world. He is not uptight like these oldies and projects the country at the optimum level.
His films have got a longer shelf life than these MASALA SERIOUS FILMS makers. eason is simple, they are great films. Films that touch heart and soul and yet educate people in a non preachy way. SRK is bigger than Satyajit Ray. Its a shame in our illiterate country people wait for a genius to die before they shower him with accolades.
Come on all you indians, lets sing a song for our very own SRK, a man without whose vision, we would have still be watching crappy Bachchan films of Male chauvanism, provocative violence and anti state sentiments.
YOU BETTER BOW DOWN TO THE KING!!!
As for SR, you did well for yourself sir, hope there are more people like you which there will be. But there is no one like SRK. Just imagine if we have 2 more people like SRK, where would our country be?
Respect to all!

I am really disapointed to see some one comparing Satyajit Ray with SRK. While I do not want to get in to what SRK has done for Indian cinema, but at the same time one must know that he is an actor and at most a business man. Styajit Ray is a film director, I hope you know this.

Now some thing which you seem to be not knowing. Satyajit Ray is a wonderful writer, painter, lyricist, musician and social reformist. He is an artist in true sence.

SRK's films? What do you mean Sir? SRK is an actor (how good, that is another debate). His films are directed by other people(s).

Multitalented - Ok, he is popular actor, what are his OTHER talents?

You want to compare him with a person who was a director, screen playwriter, story writer and painter. He could have got World Recognition in ANY ONE of them. Please do not make ridicoulos comparisons.

Satyajit Ray was a multi talented man...he was a director and music composer... he specialized in pencil sketching, was one of bengal's best short story writers in the modern day... one who gave us our favourite characters Feluda, Professor Shanku, Lal Mohan Babu and others.

Once when asked, why he turned into a film making, he responded by saying that when he was young, he felt that he wouldnt have been better than Rabindranath Thakur or Sarat Chandra Chatterjee for which he turned to film making!!

Simple movies which touched your heart
by Lisa Sinha on Apr 14, 2009 07:23 PM  | Hide replies

I would like to mention the movie ' Hirak Rajar Deshe' (In the Land of King Hirak), a sequel to 'Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne' (writtn by Ray's paternal grandfather, a famous writer). If you can understand bengali language, you shall see that each dialogue in this movie is in the form of prose. Important issues are dealt so finely in this movie with comic efect. Not just a childre's movie. Ray's father was a famous limerick wrter who died young but his limericks are very popular with children in bengal.A multi talented men I miss him. His movies were not pompous and had message. Just Great!!!!

Roy was a great nobel person who gained recognition making poverty centric movies. Just like eveyone from his days he is also dead and buried or burnt. Thats what happens whether ur great or not.. death doesnt distinguish between vips or poor man. What he did was for his living and earning respect in the society which he did with it well.
May his soul be happy whether re-incarnated or in heaven or hell.

Its funny how you ignorant fools like to comment on absolutely everything under the sky. You need not worry whether he is in heaven or hell. First of all he is known as Satyajit Ray not Satyajit Roy. Secondly he made more than poverty centric movies. You people watch SM and think you can judge Satyajit Ray?! Satyajit Ray is far from dead as he lives in the heart and mind of everyone who is aware of his work. Your comments are in poor taste and it shows the kind of breeding you guys recieve at home. it doesnt cost money to be respectful and for people you do not know it doesnt cost money to just stfu.

But my opinion Rithik Ghatak was great great great director around the world.
It's unfortunate that he did not get enough support from then guvernment. he did not compromise his talent with then government, once he had said to Nehru at a function ,shut yr mouth regardung FILM because it's not yr field. It was Rittik Ghatak.
But he got a pathetic end his life.

True Mr. Ghatak was a very gifted director, one of the stalwarts of Indian cinema. But his movies were mainly unidirectional, either about Indo-Pakistan partition or centering around extreme leftist ideologies. He was a master craftsman of films, but his one-track subjects hindered the universal appeal amongst all classes. Ray's films deal with a wide repretoire of subjects, from social evils (Sadgati, Pratidwandi, Ashani Shanket, Shimabaddha) to fantasy (GGBB, Hirak Rajar Deshey), to intricate human relationships (Pather Panchali, Charulata, Piku), to detective thrillers (Feluda series). He has explored every known aspect of human emotions and social elements. Ghatak is great but probably not this versatile
