OK kind

I saw this movie yesterday in Dallas. It has every masala to make it a popular hit movie. However, if I look at it as a critique I would say it is too long to watch. Besides the fact is distorted. Things could have been much acceptable to a broader audience if the main characters were not Akbar and Jodha. When you try to grab something from the history, better dont rewrite it .Anyway I'll give a complete three stars unlike Rediff which gave two and half star!

i agree with you. If you are going to take historical characters then it is the director#s responsibility to make sure the historical facts are at least in mostly there. However as is well known i suppose that if historical facts had been followed totally this movie would not have been made - at least it wouldnt have been called jodha akbar. there is a controversy about akbar's hindu queen but i think her name was harkha bai.

Good Review
by Amita on Feb 18, 2008 12:52 PM

Good Review Raja Sen.. I agree, it is a good movie, but not a great one.... maybe one expects better from Ashutosh now.

The message - 1. Akbar was a good king 2. Muslim and Hindu wedding 3. How Akbar won the heart of Jodha... probably there was need to identify one message and depict is clearly. As of now the movie did not convey any of these clearly... but credit is due to Hritik for terrific acting. Aishwarya looks good but still needs to act better. The role of her brother was important and demanded better acting.

All in all, worth watching once only.. but lacked focus.... so does not leave a long lasting impact.

Like Ashutosh, Raja Sen labours hard to express
by prabhat mohanty on Feb 18, 2008 11:59 AM

What an irony!!!

Mr Sen finds fault with the form of Ashutosh's cinematic interpretation of "just-slice-of-growing -up-years-of-a-would-be-great-emperor"...

Yet he can't stop himself from swinging his own moods from "denial" to "admiration" and all-so-much-grey in between!!!

Imagine Mr Sen being in the editing table with long footages lavish sets, actions and romantic scenes!!!

If Din-e-elahi ( pardon if I am mistaken ), ( today's equivalent of "sarva dharma samaj") was great contribution of Akbar to Indian history, then just an exploration into psych of the creator of this religion faith is worthwhile.
This is a piece of history. Yet so contemporary!

The director, unravelled it silently without being verbose.

And he did it brilliantly.

A great master piece.

After movies like Lagaan / Swades , we were in a impression that we got a director who even though being " filmy " was directing sensible movies..!

but my opinoion on him changed aftr jodhaa akbar..! I have not scene Mughal e azam but i feel that would be lot more better than the latest movie !!

;-(

Simply mind blowing... The hangover of the Mogal rule , desert combats takes a lot of time to recede. Ashutosh ...... you are the genious.
