Music Rip off Details
by Jaggu Yadav aka Crocodile Dundee on Apr 10, 2008 03:13 PM  | Hide replies

Some one is maintaining this nice blog, where he compares the tunes with both the original & ripped-off tunes. Many biggies exist in the list there.

Do not worry. If these chaps did original works, they would not make this kind of money. End of the day, it is how much they made that matters. Whether by hook or by crook!

AR Rehman is a Big CopyCat.???????????????????????????????
by Mac on Apr 10, 2008 03:11 PM  | Hide replies

Go to Google.com, And Search for Copy Tunes of AR Rehman, It's Just a Small Synnopsis,

Tu Hi Tu from Priyadarsan%u2019s Anil Kapoor-Pooja Bhatt disaster, Kabhi Na Kabhi, had Rahman%u2019s music and the beginning of the song sounds so much like The Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkel!

As far as Rahman%u2019s Tamil work is concerned, in the song Hello Mr Ethirkatchi from the Aishwarya Rai-starrer Iruvar, the opening piano part is definitely %u2018inspired%u2019. Our source: Dave Grusin%u2019s Memphis Stomp, from the OST of The Firm, released in 1993.

Rahman used the background rhythm and beats inspired from the song Rescue Me by Fontella Bass. The song was part of the OST of the film Sister Act, released in 1965, and was used for Kuluvalile (Film: Muthu). Thillana Thillana from Muthu opens with the humming of an African female, which is a straight lift from Deep Forest%u2019s Night Bird. But if Deep Forest can rip-off native African sounds, why can%u2019t Rahman?

Even Sampath gets inspiration from other peoples' music and songs
by Sameer on Apr 10, 2008 03:10 PM

The movie industry and music industry all copy something or the other. Well so many songs and stories, from where can they get. Even if they use other peoples music and change and present it in better way theres is nothing wrong. Even RD Burman used to listen to western songs and get inspiration. Sampath should have settled the matter out of court when he was given the choice. Even he gets inspiration from other people songs and tunes. Why unnecessarily create controveries.

I don't know your age and experience to talk about legends like RD and Illiyaraja. but before pointing fingers to them, you should understand that they hadn't COPIED the tunes or music. I agree that they have used some of the beats & pieces of it but finally added own spice to make the songs memorable. There power of music is so much that even you here original tune, you start to sing the COPIED song.

Someone on the blog mentioned this long before this case and verdict, that the music sounded like the Sony Ericcson Feel the Thump ad.
Don't remember who, but congrats on your sharp ear.
