this is hilarious.. How in VOLDEMORT'S name did she even get to know about the Pandal???!!
I thought she was busy enjoying her 500 million pounds in some posh corner of London...
Copyright is pretty important in today's age of piracy and she's somewhat justified but the whole thing comes across as being slightly silly and petty...

As I was told by my Bengali friend that the stories of Harry Potter are not novel to them as they possess rich stories like that long before (some 60/70 years back) Potter was born, compiled in a storybook named 'Thakurmar Jhuli'! he also laments that today's generation even does not even know about that!

yeah, 'thakumar jhooli', translated as 'grandma's bag' of stories is an anthology of magic, mystery and like. but this is not to suggest someone ripped from smthing. its just that we do have such stories in indian languages, not only bengali.

Bengali literatute is richest among all Indian vernacular languages! But Gundappa did nowhere tell that Rowlings stories were ripped from it!

i beg to differ on your comment harish...for the simple reason that people flock to different states and different countries to satisfy their own individual purpose, not because they dislike their own cities...and as far as your typecasting kolkata has a dustbin is concerned-bombay is one of the world's most 10 immensely polluted city-as was declared by an international broadcasting channel years back...nd try to get a good view of bombay if you are flying in to the city-you will get to see slums every where...so sweet heart,do visit my city of joy for once, and make your comments...cheers!

Rowling should be made understand that it is mere out of profound love towards Potter, the puja committee erects such characters, not to gain anything from it. Maybe,Rowling was made understand otherwise by some rival committee!

The Case Will Be Rejected
by Sagar sagar on Oct 12, 2007 09:19 AM  | Hide replies

The Pooja Decoration is not for commenrical purpose. The Pooja commitee is not going to get any financial gain from this. So the first place it self the case will be rejected. I think this is all to gain publicity.

Sagar,
She is J.K. Rowling. She does not need publicity. Pooja Pandal Decoration is not charity. It comes out of huge extortion money collected by social goons.
On the top of it, Indians like you and the Pandal goons have high disregard to others fundamental rights including copyright (you must have heard this term for the first time in your life, right?) give reasons like 'It's not commercial purpose.'
You must have a lot of pirated CD's at your home bought at road. Now you will say, they are for private viewing and not for commercial purpose.

Sunshine, I dont think its right to call all the Puja committes as social goons. Yes, there are some places but most of the big Pooja pandals are respectable and contributions are collected by decent educated people. And Sagar is right,it is not for any commercial purpose. Pooja committees make Taj Mahal, Vatican, Ram Mandir and other wonderful artistic pandals with lights & themes. Rather than critisizing, we should be patronising the artisan who make this.
