It's a case of Warner Bros. owning the rights to Harry Potter characters and wanting to make money out of merchandising. Rowling, sadly, sold the merchandising rights to these people and these guys just want to spoil the fun by suing. Dont go on blaming JKR for this...only mistake she did was selling the copy rights.

Some of the Durga puja organisers some times never cared for any sentiments. They are just after the Puja awards("Sharod Samman"). These types of people must be sued.
Here are the name of some popular Puja organisers and read about there puja rituals..

What if the kids start worshipping Hermoine instead of Durga?

Should the pandal organisers be also sued for insulting Hindu beliefs by putting cutouts of Harry and friends there? What if the kids start worshipping them instead of Durga?

You should be praising Rowling for taking this step and not allowing her characters to be misused to insult Hindu gods.

Alternatively, would you be ok with Hermoine in Vaishno Devi shrine as well?

Let me confess, I am not a religious person and I actually found that thought very funny.

On a serious note, of course, Rowling is entitled to protect her creations from being misused or used without her permission.

Had Rowling given the permission and allowed Harry Potter and his friends images to be used for Durga Puja pandals, then we would have got even louder protests from the religious people as well, who would have seen that as an insult to Hinduism - no doubt about that at all.

You should not forget that they are doing this as part of some entertainment also along with pooja.

Hope you not blind to ignore that they are not performing pooja to Harry Potter!!!!
