I watched all the three mentioned south indian films viz, manichithrathaazhu-malayalam, Aapthanithra- Kannada and Chandramukhi-Tamil. Malayalam movie manichithrathaazhu was made around 1994 and Fazil was the director. Then around 2003, P. Vasu entered and attempted a remake in Kannada. It was aapthamithra. In this movie, the hero(Dr. Vishnuvardhana) was given more importance than in the malayalam version. The climax was also different. Still the story line was the same. Then came Chandramukhi in 2005. Again P. Vasu himself was the director and Chandramukhi was almost a frame to frame remake of aapthamithra. This time the importance to the Hero and his love interest (Nayanthara) was a bit more. Now Finally comes Bhool Bhulaiyya. According to Priyadarshan, the director, this will be a remake of original Malayalam Version. Remember, he himself is a mallu and he was also involved in the making of Manichithrathaazhu. So I think, there is no confusion over this matter.
