Don't know about others, but I like Saawariya
by Shiv Pandey on Nov 16, 2007 09:03 PM  | Hide replies

Finally watched both the movies after hearing a lot about both in different blogs (of course I count viewer reviews as Critics writes for Money not for own job satisfaction). My personal preference was OSO over Saawariya as I like COMDEY/MASALA more over SERIOUS/CLASS. Based on my past experience with MAIN HU NA (by Farah) and HAYY BABBY (by Sajid), I was ready to ignore logic while watching OSA and was expecting some DIRECTOR LITTLE EXTRA before watching Saawariya because of BLACK and other SLB classics.

To my surprise I was totally disappointed with OSA and pleasantly enjoyed Saawariya even after sad ending (which I never like). Whether it%u2019s about songs, story, picturisation, director%u2019s touch, LITTLE EXTRA (experiment with Blue and Green color) I got everything in Saawariya. About OSO I can pick lots of reasons as complains, but in short I was disappointed especially after CHAK DE (one of the good SRK movie). It may be because I ready seen KARZ and MADHUMATI in past. I felt Farah could do much better, probably lived with %u201CYAHI CHALATA HAI AAJKAL%u201D logic. Of course we see lots of movies these days with this logic, but OSO was not up to that mark (probably I was over expected due to media hype). Don%u2019t know about both films money making, but for me Saawariya is my PAISA VASUL movie.

Good economy
by Vinay Joshi on Nov 16, 2007 05:23 PM  | Hide replies

When economy is good, everthing is a win win situation.

People go and watch movies
Retailers open as many stores as possible because people are buying more
Therefore to get brand attention, people tie up with movies, etc

But if economy goes bad, everything goes for a toss. so its not to bhansali's or SRKs (He is the producer) credit for making good moolah. It is the economy. Sawariya as stated by many is a crappy movie, but the producers made good moolah because of the hype. So will any other big movie. The small movie makers like RGV will keep struggling, because they are not exactly Yash Chopra. But you have to laud people like RGV for making and supporting directors to make movies about vast subjects, which Indian cinema needs and not yash chopra karan johar type eye candies.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE INTELLIGENCE OF A COMMOM MOVIEGOER WHO GIVE GENUINE CURRENCY TO BUY TICKETS.

Dear Mohib, Every one is having freedom of expression! I do'nt mind your interpretation of the movie! A greek God like structure of Ranbeer if you can not appreciate, well Good! Read reviews on Mouthshut, Singapore reviews and many other remarks and reviews on International sites and then state! Pakistanis in UK and USA are jumping for Ranbeer and Sonam. Same is the case with non-asians! It is through my friend circle!Yes, In Diwali, everyone watched OSO, but now they are going to watch Saawariya repeatedly. I honour public opinion, but I am afraid, in India we just can not understand at which time they would like Biryani and at which time they will eat Gobar considering it as Biryani!!! Alas!

Dear Vasudha
When I started reading your post I liked it at once. I completely understand your taste and I respect it too. But once i reached towards end , the words were pinching when you said "in India we just can not understand at which time they would like Biryani and at which time they will eat Gobar considering it as Biryani!!! Alas!
", you seem to be an educated person. Please do not generalize the whole nation and insult the same. I wold request you to take back your words. I would appriciate that.
Good day.

i think ur fool.i have seen both film.now tell me what is the story of OSO mixture of manmohan desai movies. moreover its just shooting * shooting & ................. in every scene. where is the film except shooting. its hardly in the end.where as in saawariya its simply best.from beginnig to end .the story , the dialoges . the performances.now speaking about music i think Sawaariya music is outclass, great & melodious. However, OSO itd just one time listen & forget. Now, comparison b/w SRK & RAnbeer.i think Ranbeer was much better than SRK.His cuteness, acting , style, everything.Where as for SRK Its same ,moreover he made abs just because he felt jealous of every other tough actor like AB junior,Hrithinh. & so on.And now he be woried od RAnbeer too.So just don,t go on favourtism or what u like.even for me SRk is KIng Khan But for last 2-3 years he is loosing pace.that can be seen in KANK ,DON &now in OSO

what about the distributors!!!
by ritesh verma on Nov 16, 2007 01:36 PM

even if the producers are not losing anything...
selling all their broadcast rights, merchandise rights..overseas rights..but u know one thing if a distributors have brought the rights for a state or a pariular area by paying crores..and it turns out to be a flop..they are the losers at the end....this all market gimmick suits the production house..no one else...u may say its foolish on the first hand 2 invest crores..
but its all about business..man..the worst hit are those ppl who r inside the industry for around 50 years..lying in the tier-2 and tier-3 cities..where this multiplex boom is not there..
a 30% seat occupation would there definitely harm them..
i wish the industry overcomes its weakness..not just economically..but supporting the people who were the backbone, when it was nascent..
