To say Saawariya is a crappy movie would not be correct. Horrendously Ridiculous comes close, but it doesn't really capture the essence of the absurdity that this movie is. After watching this movie I felt like tying up Sanjay Leela Bansali alone in a room, forcing him to watch a cockroach chase a spider round-and-round a water fountain for 3 hours. That too in blue light. Because seriously, that's what this entire movie is. It's two grossly untalented kids, who probably got kicked out of college for lack of attendance and ended up on this set to spend the rest of the day. And for the love of God, I can't figure out why the whole movie is in blue! Maybe the director was trying to get every frame half-black half-blue so that the WinZip compression would work better to save some electrons, what with all the global warming and all. That's the best explanation I could come up with, because nothing else can explain the lack of daylight (or plain light, for that matter) in this movie.
Sawaariya is one long song with some breaks for dialog. And by dialog I mean girly giggling by the chic and some punch-me-in-the-face expressions accompanied by pig-like grunting by the hero. One wonders if all the actors are the props and the set is the real star in this movie. I came really close to concluding that the bridge-over-the-fake-river is the central star of the movie, because everyone of the other actors looks like they were made of rock. And the rocks had moss growing over them. And t

these dialogues r better than nonsense sets, blue colour, darkness and non stop boring songs...infact i felt i am watching a long song with some dialogues in between...all songs sound similar...look similar...there is no land or a ray of light coming...which part of the world is this...polar region

Q: Why did you decide to adapt Fyodor Dostoevsky's play White Nights?
A: Why shouldn't I? If I did Saratchandra Chattopadhyay (Devdas), why not international litterateurs? I also want to do Shakespeare and other world classics. I want to adapt all kinds of literature. Dostoevsky's White Nights was written in the 19th century but is relevant to this day. The truth about love and sacrifice doesn't alter from era to era, or through different time zones.
Q: Happy with the outcome of Saawariya so far?
A: According to me, it's the biggest hit of my career so far. I'm proud I've created a superstar in Ranbir Kapoor.

A: Saawariya has got the biggest opening ever in the history of Indian cinema with two newcomers in the lead. And it opened with a film featuring the biggest star of the country. Yes, some people find Saawariya a little slow in pace. But most people love what I've done. Media manipulation won't kill my film. I'm open to healthy criticism and debate. But not prejudiced criticism. In the opening weekend we've had massive audiences all over the world connecting with the film.
Q: Are audiences having a tough time accepting Saawariya because you've built another kind of expectation through your earlier films?
A: The huge barrage of criticism hasn't prevented people from appreciating my merger of raga-based melodies with a Broadway-styled play. As far as I'm concerned, people love Saawariya. Only a handful of critics are trying to influence the audience to go against the film. They didn't succeed with Devdas. They won't succeed in conditioning the audience's mind. The final verdict comes from the unbiased viewer. And the audience is far more intelligent than me or the learned critics.
My effort to merge art with commerce cannot go to waste. If today Bimal Roy made Sujata or Do Bigha Zameen he'd be slammed by critics. They'd destroy him. Where are films like Bandini and Jagte Raho today? Once in a blue moon we get a film like 36 Chowringhee Lane.
Q: A lot of people have commented on the imaginary world that you've created.

very well said. I'm so disappointed with the biased approach of rediff. media today should realize the importance and the power it have got in its hand.. and should not misuse it. I must say saawariya is such a beautiful movie... I wish such filmakers continue producing such genre.

BEFORE THIS MOVIES LIKE
"VIVAH" AND "BHUL BHULAIYA"
WERE DECLARED FLOPS
BY REDIFF AND SOME OTHER MEDIAS
BUT THESE FILMS ARE SUPERHITS.
SOME MEDIAS ALWAYS TRY TO HIGHLIGHT SOME ACTOR OR MOVIE UNNECESSARILY.

Your right Prithvi. So goes for Bhansali's early movie- Khamoshi. Saawariya will definitely take the bull by the horns and Sony won't have burnt thier fingers.

Please don't compare Saawariya to Bhansali's earlier works... And who said that the previouse movies were losers initially..? Except for Khamoshi, all others are huge hits!?! Saawariya is a mediocre movie according to me!
