Well I won't claim that Iam a fan of Sanjaya but one piece of information that I want to give is that he is a Bengali and not Maharashtrian. Just by having 'Kar' in the end of surname doesn't mean a person is Marathi. These 'Malakars' were the money-lending class once upon a time in rural bengal that used to be ruled by nawabs and zamindars. Well although it doesn't matter whether Sanjaya is Marathi or Bengali because in the end of the day he is an ABCD (American Born Confused Desi) they just have Indian looks to their credit and to gain mileage and credit from affectionate Indians suddenly out of the blue he is letting them call by his birth name, but actually he is Joseph over there and his sister is also called by some different name. I just wanted to clear the confusion regarding the surname 'Malakar' whatever Sanjaya nee Joseph is Doesn't Mind!

Sanjaya Malakar had oodles of charm that could beguile But his steady progress on the Idol show upset many a person's bile. While sis Shyamali a Hooter's girl With teeth as white as pearl Posed with a guitar wearing nothing except her dazzling smile!!!
such a boring interview. sanjaya made name for indians at american idol. But he was a bad representation i shud say...cos he su@ked at singing. Not really inspired by the story...nah

Besides, i would like to ask how good these 2 kids are? Sanjaya doesn't sing too well , while shyamala gave a teasing picture wearing nothing for attention. All these people want money n fame. cheers to them, but they don't inspire anyone to live better.
Hey guys dont click on the link .... It is not that u have to read each and every news on rediff. Earlier it was Sachin Tendulkar and now Sanjaya Malakar.
RE:NON-HINDUS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN TEMPLE
by india on Jun 01, 2007 11:26 AM
Being a hindu i dont like when there is such discrepancy in temple. But then this rule is something a priest didnt invent, century old set rules. A beef eater or any kind of hindu belief violeter cant be allowed in a holy place. I am myself not sure that if we should allow. Then 2ndly there are some rules in every religion, for example in christianity a MAN can be priest not a woman, a woman can be only a nun max even thought 1st saint was a woman, vrgin mother. They regard their rule. and similarly in islam too there are set of rules and they regard their rules. So I dont know if we should remove the rules or retain them.

religion sucks. Spirituality rocks. The religion has never helped man. It has created turmoil, hatred and discrimination. What good is any religion. Hinduism, islam n christianity...they all suck. If man has to go ahead, he shud follow spirituality n science together. cheers

%u201CReligion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.%u201D-- by Nobel Laureate physicist Steven Weinberg.
It is amazing to see what has been written by some folks who claim themselves Indians - haven't you been taught to be polite and respectful by your folks - or maybe in this new age that is not being taught like everything else, as long as you can type and speak some english you are good. I can only hope the ones spewing venom are not Hindus. Remember, just because you are sitting in front a computer that does not mean you have to type.

Couldn't agree with you more! I find it amazing that Indians living in India have so much against the Indians living abroad (especially US). Its an individual's choice as to where he wants to be and that should be respected.
So hare-rama bye product Sanjay Malakar is Joseph malakar in America !! and his kid sis Shyamali is Rosario !!! Well nothing wrong with it really. sanjay can even call himself Adolf hitler when in germany but our RSS goons went to town when they found out the our AP chief minister Rajasekar reddy had a christian name. They accused him of a great crime!! Now what do they have to say about sanjay (in india) and Joseph( in america) malakar? Another case of RSS hypocrisy or are the rules for only the minorities and dalits ?

Hey chrsitian/OBC/Maddu RSS criticised Rajashekar Reddy because he was still using Hindu name eventhough he was converted to christianity and every one know his family did it for money just like your forefathers must have done. Whereas the name of Sanjaya is not Joseph malakar it Sanjaya Joseph Malakar (middle name Joseph) you m..o..r..o..n. And that is the greatness of a Hindu who still allows to have his wife's religion name to his son. No wonder you guys with your narrowmindedness will reman backward for ever because of your stupidity no matter how much reservations you get.

dear aaaa
Its pity to read such a stuff written by an Indian. Narrowmindedness varies from person to person & not community to community. You don't have any right to call any community backward. In India Sikhs are the most prosperous & forward people followed by Christians (hope U are aware of it!) next comes the muslims & Hindus. It shows itself which community is backward & which is forward. And such stuff written by an Indian look very very stupid. India is a secular country giving freedom to its citizen to follow any religion. Everybody has the right to follow their own religion & you dont have the right to point finger at any one. Try loving Indians & dont forget the pledge that all Indians are my brothers & sisters. If you dont agree means U R not an Indian even if U are physically present in India. Please think over it !

Mr selvan saar! My brother says that the gas station owner near his home calls himself Mike patel and the gas station attendent doing the next shift is John Mahajan !! When my brother asked what their real indian first name was they swore that they were christined Mike an John by their parents !! And these guys mike and john are part of the great tribe that contributes to welfare activities in gujarat and india. Want to know what that welfare activity is ? Terrorising the minorities and dalits in the land & country of Mahatma gandhi !

I think sanjaya is putting a good Image for India that we are not only talented in IT field we also have other talents. He had Dinner at white house and received a very warm welcome. If Americans are fans of him and think he has some talent then why can't you people take that in good spirt and stop blaming rediff.
As an Indian living in USA, Sanjaya has been a wisp of fresh air. His charming mannerisms and positive attitude is examplary. Maybe he is not the greatest vocalist, but so are Justin Timberlake and Britteny Spears.
