Watched it in 2009. One of my all-time favorites! Very good acting by all characters!!! Full points from my side, except of-course the Aasma Jahangir one, as rightly mentioned in the article. But then, it is only a movie and had to have some fiction to get going! That's what makes reel life different from real!!!
really every indian should watch this movie, very nice movie---,this movie should be taxfree.ma un logo sa request kerti hu jo badi starcast na hona ka karan ya movie dakhna nahi ja rha,so plz watch this movie
Thanks for Shreeji Group for the piece of information. Yes. i do feel Indian media needs a discernment on broadcasting. Anyway you all go through it and comment on the media.
Shame on Indian Media
By the time u guys read this news, the body of Major Manish Pitambare, who was shot dead at Anantnag, would have been cremated with full military honors. On Tuesday, this news swept across all the news channels 'Sanjay Dutt relieved by court'. 'Sirf Munna not a bhai' '13 saal ka vanvaas khatam' 'although found guilty for possession of armory, Sanjay can breath sigh of relief as all the TADA charges against him are withdrawn' Then many personalities like Salman Khan said 'He is a good person. We knew he will come out clean'. Mr Big B said "Dutt's family and our family have relations for years he's a good kid. He is like elder brother to Abhishek". His sister Priya Dutt said "we can sleep well tonight. It's a great relief" In other news, Parliament was mad at Indian team for performing bad; Greg Chappell said something; Shah Rukh Khan replaces Amitabh in KBC and other such stuff. But most of the emphasis was given on Sanjay Dutt's "phoenix like" comeback from the ashes of terrorist charges. Surfing through the channels, one news on BBC startled me. It read "Hisbul Mujahidin's most wanted terrorist 'Sohel Faisal' killed in Anantnag , India. Indian Major leading the operation lost his life in the process. Four others are injured. It was past midnight, I started visiting the stupid Indian channels, but Sanjay Dutt was still ruling. They were telling how Sanjay pleaded to the court saying 'I'm the sole bread earner for my family', 'I have a daughter who is studying in US' and so on. Then they showed how Sanjay was not wearing his lucky blue shirt while he was hearing the verdict and also how he went to every temple and prayed for the last few months. A suspect in Mumbai bomb blasts, convicted under armory act...was being transformed into a hero. Sure Sanjay Dutt has a daughter; Sure he did not do any terrorist activity. Possessing an AK47 is considered too elementary in terrorist community and also one who possesses an AK47 has a right to possess a pistol so that again is not such a big crime; Sure Sanjay Dutt went to all the temples; Sure he did a lot of Gandhigiri but then........... Major Manish H Pitambare got the information from his sources about the terrorists' whereabouts. Wasting no time he attacked the camp, killed Hisbul Mujahidin's supremo and in the process lost his life to the bullets fired from an AK47. He is survived by a wife and daughter (just like Sanjay Dutt) who's only 18 months old. Major Manish never said 'I have a daughter' before he took the decision to attack the terrorists in the darkest of nights. He never thought about having a family and he being the bread earner. No news channel covered this since they were too busy hyping a former drug addict, a suspect who's linked to bomb blasts which killed hundreds. Their aim was to show how he defied the TADA charges and they were so successful that his conviction in possession of armory had no meaning. They also concluded that his parents in heaven must be happy and proud of him.
Parents of Major Manish are still living and they have to live rest of their lives without their beloved son. His daughter won't ever see her daddy again. Finally Major Manish, to my generation is a greater hero, someone who laid his life in the name of this great nation.
So guys, please forward this message around so that the media knows which news to give importance, as it is a shame for us since this Army Major's death news was given by a foreign TV channel!!!

I agree with Pragya. This is complete biasness from India media. This is not the first time that news about army has been given less importance.

Pragya... hats off for the detail study done by you.. we need more people like you to create awareness as inspite of a good movie like "1971" there are not lot of cinema going audience.. as most of them preferred watching "Red" this weekend. n y Red coz it contained 27 mins of Love making....its SAD

Obviously Indian gov do not want to expose the secrets what's happening in Kashmir. That's why Indian media do not cover anything kashmir. If Media starts exposing real truth about kashmir, then whole indian public would be against Gov. It's nothing surprise to me. In fact when I need read something about kashmir, usually I refer foreign media
Friends its a great movie.A must watch for every Indian. It should be declared tax free. Unfortunately the movie is not promoted properly.Great performances, Great direction. Best movie ever made in bollywood on prisnors of war.
Why there is no review done in Times of India newspaper. Infact there are five movies been released on Friday but 1971 hasn't figured. Anything wrong with TOI not knowing anything about 1971 release date.

Right.... may be because of no big starcast... and english newspapers are always more dazzled to hollywood movies....
This movie should be a reminder for the common public about the plight of our brave soldiers who have been forgotten by the government as well as the armed forces...
The first step towards any peace initiative should be taken by asking Pakistan to hand our brave soldiers back... And thats a fair deal... How can you talk about peace withone someone who has illegally kept our soldiers and then talk about diplomacy... Thats hypocrisy...
A strong movement should be started by the common public to remind the government about our forgotten heroes and urge the Pakistani government to hand our soldiers back to us NOW...

Well said... and point noted bro..
I just end all my messages with that signature, just bcoz I am proud of being a Muslim and even more prouder bcoz I am an Indian Muslim...
I actually started putting this signature when people started doubting my intentions whenever I wrote any message on this message board... People have made it a habit of suspecting the loyalty of every Indian Muslim... So, I just want to show everyone that I love my country as any other Hindu brother does!!! Hope you understand... But I fully with your point too...

yes Tabrez and others, we Indian Muslims have been doubted by pakis wherever we go, we are all proud of being an Indian but whenever we post stuff, pakis began to start their B.S. so this makes then quiet. great effort by Tarbez brother
its a must for every indian i would say...should make us realise how easily this government and this nation can forget people who laid their lives for this country...sacrificed their family...and its thru movies like this we are made aware of such reality...we shall forget it next week itself..thts the kind of people we are..but at least for a while ..we acknowledge their sacrifice...like the way we acknowledge indo-pak cricket, hockey matches and so called peace dialouges.
I thought this forum was for sharing views on a particular film. But now it seems the platform is being used for abusing one other and all nonsense talk. It started with 1971,the latest movie on POW and to one's surprise majority of the talk is on what was done during our freedom struggle and what should have been done.It would be better for all of us to stick to the basic topic rather than questioning the patriotism of our FREEDOM FIGHTERS.When there is a comparison among films like WHERE EAGLES DARE,OPERATION DAY BREAK and our war movie let me place a question what is the point some of you want to raise, is it that we should have taken the approach countries like USA,UK took. Then please get some knowledge of history we fought the three wars in the first 25 years of our freedom and whereas USA, UK before going into a major war had the time to build up its military resource. Its easy to say that we should have taken over Pakistan or finished it completly but do you people think that we were that well positioned in the economy to take such a step, there were pressures from the first world country and these pressures do play a role you just can't ignore them.Think rationally .

IMHO we should take an example from a country like Israel which has been on war ever since its independence & moreover what Israel did in Entebee & Jordan & Lebanon &.... elsewhere is commendable. It takes a lot of balls to take that kind of stand.
