I thought this forum was for sharing views on a particular film. But now it seems the platform is being used for abusing one other and all nonsense talk. It started with 1971,the latest movie on POW and to one's surprise majority of the talk is on what was done during our freedom struggle and what should have been done.It would be better for all of us to stick to the basic topic rather than questioning the patriotism of our FREEDOM FIGHTERS.When there is a comparison among films like WHERE EAGLES DARE,OPERATION DAY BREAK and our war movie let me place a question what is the point some of you want to raise, is it that we should have taken the approach countries like USA,UK took. Then please get some knowledge of history we fought the three wars in the first 25 years of our freedom and whereas USA, UK before going into a major war had the time to build up its military resource. Its easy to say that we should have taken over Pakistan or finished it completly but do you people think that we were that well positioned in the economy to take such a step, there were pressures from the first world country and these pressures do play a role you just can't ignore them.Think rationally .

IMHO we should take an example from a country like Israel which has been on war ever since its independence & moreover what Israel did in Entebee & Jordan & Lebanon &.... elsewhere is commendable. It takes a lot of balls to take that kind of stand.
do you guys actually think that there are absolutely no Pakistani POWs in India? War is a terrible thing with atrocities on all sides. Silly dramatic movies only fan flames of hatred. You've got two nuclear powers, neither can overtake the other. Accept this and achieve peace.

If people start thinking negative like this then "GOD SAVE OUR COUNTRY".The movie is a fantastic effort showcasing nothing but reallity and Pakistanis brutually torturing our POWs.Every Indian must watch this movie so that everyone becomes aware of what our soldiers does for our safety.
I am a regular movie buff but in recent times i have not such a fantastic movie like 1971 , a fast paced one without the typical Bollywoof "nacha gana" Very few people are actually aware of the POWs who are languishing in Pakistan jails. A movie which will keep everyone on their toes and the end is no drama but taken out of real life. a commendable effort from a new debutant director. Arup Kumar Roy Kolkata

Amitabh's Deewar was very weak-so broken.1971 is made of stone(good performance and direction). It will pickup slowlly when people get review from others.coz of many movie released at a time and small cast -this got poor response.

Plz dont compare it with Deewaar. Deewaar was a shitty film with loads of Cinematic liberties taken also with the locations and the shoddy sets one could recognise Film City where it was shot. U have to watch 1971. Sure Deewaar raised the issue but could not drive home the P.O.W message thanks to its Shoddy treatment.

1971 and Deewar have many diferences. But the most important difference is Deewar was a crap but got publicity because of Amitabh and this film despite being very good hasn't got much. Deewar was an attempt to create a drama. 1971 is an attempt to cover the drama that a catastrophe like war unleashes.
i had the previlege to attend the premier show of the film in pune and meet mr vajpai and sagar. it was a real previlege to witness such a great movie. complements to all of them. the makers of the movie really showed courage in tackling such an important subject. it is really touching to know that our country men care for us in uniform and are ready to spend time and resources to make a movie of this genre. thank you sagar. let us show this movie to all college going kids, for that matter all indians. it is a great story of grit and comradeship. once again thanks a lot and may the lord be with you in all your endevours
I have seen the movie and every Indian should see the movie. Its an amazing piece from Amrit Sagar...the 2nd half is thrilling and the impactful climax can make you think about our heroes who r left behind as POW. Good Job..Keep it up

Yeah. I saw it too & every Indian should see it as a mark of respect 4 those brave soldiers who are still there in pakistan jails. Fully agree with the review, a gripping movie. Possibly the best movie in the War genre.. Joginder
What kind of a review is this? I could not figure out other than summarizing the movie's story what has the reviewer offered in this article! Of course, he mentions "....adventure involving helicopters, trucks, jeeps...." Is Rediff employing 11 yr old boys to review movies? No mention too of why the movie deserves 4.5 stars.
It is because of those peaceful decisions only we are here.. and pakistan is so behind!
For all those who are questioning those decisions and callin all a coward!! HOW MANY OF THEM JOINED INDIAN ARMY IF YOU ARE SO IN LOVE WITH YOUR COUNTRY?

He doesnt CLAIM to be a patriot in the same genre as others. One more thing. A lot of my friends in the army joined because of the glamour of it and because they needed job security. So all this talk about army men being top of the line patriots is romanticism. I didnt join after 2 generations of armymen in my family because it i d seen enough patriotism without money. Now my generation of forces children want some money-security.
A very good catchy movie with a very sad ending. Very powerful perfomances. Government should really take some action to try and bring back still remaning 54 prisoners of war. This will be really a tribute who have laid down their lives for the nation. Present so called secular government is not going to do any thing because of the fear of loosing muslim votes. Please do go to theaters and see the movie.
