aish has done a good job as umraojaan.the director's job is appreciable.every charachter in the film has done to their best.movie runs very slow.overall,it is ok.
If you hve seen the old classic of Muzaffar ali, just dont waist your time money and efforts by seeing this movie. This Umrao Jaan of Dutta saaheb is Umrao without it's soul. Anyone belonging to Lucknow or even UP can not digest the culture of the era shown in the movie. Umrao in the swimming pool. Oh no dutta saab, please be serious to your job. You have not seen the Culture and soul of that land. I expected much much better work from you.
This is worst JP dutta Movie ever & Ash is no match to Rekha as umrao Jaan. As they say " This Umrao Jaan has no Jaan" & the movie is complete bore and a headache. Please donot waste your money & time on this. Request the film critic to give a fair rating to the movie as it is not worth more than one star.
Mr Dutta mat shout himself hoarse claiming that his isnot a remake of the originalUmrao Jaan- but one cannot but compare the two. Even for onemoment if you choose NOT to ,it isalmost audacious to suggest that Mr Dutta couldmatch the aestheticsensibilities of Muzzaffar Ali. He just does not belong to the regio; - with due respect to his father, the Urdu of Punjab is not the same as the Urdu of Lucknow,less so of 19th Century Lucknow... He cannot match its "nafaazat", the milieu is alien,the costumes are false,thesets are Bijon "Devdas" Dasgupta's,and even if he had taken Shabana as his consultant on diction,he could have saved the audience the torture of listening to Urdu being spoken in the phillistine way by lead actors.
Please ,will allprospective "remake" filmakers pay heed to what our own Hemaji said recently- some movies aremade to be WATCHED again and again,not MADE again and again...
A review which says that Sunil Shetty and Puru Raj Kumar did not disappoint either can not be serious. I know from their past movies that these two bums simply can't act. Whoever can not figure it out should not be writing movie reviews.
Even the trailers of the movie were boring and shallow... I certainly do not expect anything from this movie. Get value for money by watching the old Umrao Jaan ... you will love it again!

movie is worth watching. Pleasing dances, costumes of ash and abhi. Acting is surprisingly done well by Ash. Your attention is rivetted onher whenever she is on screen. it is Ash all the way. I give it three and half stars.Younger generation ought to see the moive.
