I dont really understand why all this unecessary ruckus is happening. Its just a movie for Christ sake. If any christian had to change his or her belief in christ after watching the movie, he/her wouldnt be a true christian in the first place.
There are other ways to show dedication to religion rather than condemning a work of fiction.
I think the govt has more other important things to do.
Looks like at the end of it all we will be the only ones left to watch the movie while these politicians and priests watch it in the name of so called "safeguarding of religion".
I just cannot fathom why the religious leaders are bent on removing certain scenes from Da vinci code. As long as the film carries a dis-claimer saying that it is a fictitious reproduction, faithful followers have no reason to object. In my opinion, it is perfectly agreeable if the movie does not claim to be an original reproduction, let alone having disclaimers at the begining! In fiction anything and everything should be left to the directors fantasy. As for the censorship of the scene involving the depiction of a cross before and after a murder, where was the censor board when "face-off" was screened in India? That movie has whole fight scenes, with numerous gory graphics, all in a church! The religious leaders(of any religion for that matter) are only interested in 1)raising a outcry and getting some mileage out of it and 2)to prove that they are not lame ducks and do have some control over the way things are run. The religious leaders should not consider the public to be ignorant and foolish...we can make a discretion of what is right and what is not.
To get a trouble free release in india all films including Indian films need to be only a silly entertainer with no reference to relegion, politics or even poverty. We presume our audiences are immature and can be easily influenced by a fiction!
Christians' objection is like Pope's objection to Galileo who said the earth goes round the Sun, not the other way. The Pope said he had no complaint so long as this was only a model and not represented as reality. When Galileo objected, he was put under house arrest and banished from communication with the scientific world.
