This is one of the very cases where I will agree with rediff's views. Brilliant work done by Vishal Bharadwaj, superbly supported by the actors. For Saif Ali Khan this is a life time performance role. In movies, most famous and cult characters have been villians. Like Mugambo, Gabbar Singh in hindi movies. Let this Langda Tyagi be considered among them. He completely overshadows the excellent performances of other actors
Omkara is one of the very few bollywood movies in which I did feel like an idiot watching the movie. Everyone has done excellent jobs. Good acting, good script, excellent art direction and editing. Very tryue depiction of the village life. Use of language and expressions through folk sayings and idioms were excellent.
Some people who do not agree the Bipasha has looked in the movei probably have not seen or lived in small town or villages in UP and Bihar.
Even though, I liked the movie and it is much much better that other bollywood flicks, I was dissapointed the Sound recording (I watched on DVD) at a few place was pathetic. I did not expect that from a movie that could compete at international level. Also, Naseer's role was not that rounded of.
Is the USP of the movie that it in an Indian version of Othello. Does not mean much to me.
I am not sure what did the director achieve by having such a crude language. The crude language had disappeared midway through the movie and it was much better to understand.
I don't know why the movie has gained so much hype. The movie is totally 'bakwas' and is not worth watching. The whole movie is filled with foul language and cheap dialoges. Now watchable with family. Don't waste your money!!
the movie is one of the best ever made in bollywood.everybody worked amazing and appropriate.i m happy that indian level of making movies is rising high.
I saw Omkara last week and I was bowled over by its magnificent adaptation of Othello. The location, use of dialects, topographical ambience and the choice of characters speak tons about the imaginative genius that Vishaal Bharadwaj is. Keep in mind this director also composed the music. His earlier film, Maqbool (based on Macbeth) is still vivid in my memory, particularly the haunting music and the anguish and pain portrayed by the leads, Irfan Khan and Tabu. Keep it up Vishaal you have miles to go! Anisha Datta
Omkara, the much talked about blockbuster movie by Vijay Bhardwaj, which boasts of an all-star cast, super music, a script based on Shakespeare's Othello, slick promos and a promising director, was released on July 28, 2006. Although the film has got an A certificate by Censor Board, making it only for 18 years and above, in Lucknows first multiplex WAVE (East End Mall) we could see many young children in the hall too. The main male star casts (Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi), have been shown smoking. If children and youth will have free access to movies classified as A, how effective will our prohibitions be?
Moreover no warnings have been shown scrolling up in Hindi. Recently our Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Ambumani Ramadoss told TambakooKills team in Washington DC that Indian cinema portraying tobacco use shall be given an A Certificate by Censor Board keeping them aloof of children and youth.
Movies showing tobacco use will be given 'A' certificate on the condition that the characters using tobacco on screen agree to do a disclosure stating tobacco hazards clearly either before, middle or before t
Omkara is a very good movie and worth your money to watch. Star cast has done justice with their character, but saif is outstanding. Thanks vishal ji and keepup the good work....my wishes are always with you.
