Remakes to benefit Indian audience....
by kits on Jan 23, 2006 08:40 PM

Remake of hollywood movies into hindi is beneficial to indian audiences who don't watch hollywood movies or are not able to read subtitles!! There is a huge section of people in india who are educated by find it difficult to follow american or british accents and also find it stressful to read the english subtitles.... They prefer these remakes which introduce them to interesting cinema and newer concepts.. Thanks to these remakes, movies like "kaante", "Aks" etc, which are different than most of the typical hindi movies, got to be watched!

However, getting the movies certified as a registered remake is a good idea and that should be owed to the original film makers..

foolishness of the writer
by Tabrez Iqbal on Jan 23, 2006 06:52 PM

what a way for a writer to advertise his foolishness!! how many indians watch english movies? is just redubbing them with english dialogues get the acceptance here? no. so the remake. if some one is making a good remake, then i don't see a problem. good remake is 100 times better than a bad original.

Watch out for Zinda..take my words
by Zaheer on Jan 23, 2006 06:52 PM

I dont know to what extent Raja is right... but yes creativity is demanded in cinema... Lekin.. so what, even Tarantino was inspired by some oriental movie for Reservoir Dogs and he too copied it...and he made Reservoir Dogs in his own style and so did Sanjay Gupta played with Kaante... the most hurting thing of Raja's review was that he termed Kaante as trauma..i think this fellow only knows one meaning of CRITIC that is- the one who criticizes... What I feel like Reservoir Dogs---Kaante was a masterpiece in itself (though it had some loopholes but then everymovie has afew)... since it was desi version of a hollywood flick atleast Sanjay tried to have some indian essence in it... but if u watch Zinda its totally Hollywood style movie with few characters as Indian.. no indian essence..that is why one should watch ZINDA..no bullshit..no crap..no unnecessary songs... and to conclude.. in this scenario where big banners coming with feel good films (Neal n Nikki..Dosti..etc)are going down the drain, Sanjay atleast tried a bit with a good dark cult movie so what if it is a rip off...atleast audience is liking it.

Zinda
by Anand on Jan 23, 2006 06:46 PM

I would like to know what Mr Raja Sen has to say about Zeher(copy of Out of Time).
As far as Zinda is concerned Sanjay Dutt's brilliant acting alone is enough for me to watch it. Sanjay Gupta has acknowledged that he was inspired by Oldboy. I do agree with Raja Sen that he should have mentioned it in the actual film credits. What about millions of Indians who aren't film crtics and haven't heard of Oldboy. Should they be denied to watch a "different" movie. I read somewhere that even the censors applauded it. Mr Raja Sen has a right to express his views. So is the case with all of us. I have seen the movie and wouldn't mind watching it again. The better part is that there are other people who feel exactly like me. Thanks, any comments will be most appreciated.

raja sen stinks
by raja sen on Jan 23, 2006 06:17 PM

Who really cares whether raja sen wants to watch a film or not? And how reliable is anybody's opinion which is formed even before one has actually watched a film ? Pathetic as usual !

keep your crappy opinions to yourself

And if you didnt know Kill Bill is a copy of another movie. And if you dont want to watch Zinda, keep your lousy opinions to yourself instead of brandishing your stupidity here.

Mr.Raja you should see Zinda
by Ketan Joshi on Jan 23, 2006 05:25 PM

Mr.Raja Sen,
Just sitting in your ac office & writing the reviews & punch down the film as mere copy or inspired from other hollywood flick is easy. But have u ever gone through the making of a film & pain & the hardwork of all the crew behind the film.It doesnt matter whether the movie is remake or copy, it matters the screenplay & performance of the star in the movie.Sanju as usual has performed upto its mark.Direction is excellent. You can see a well technically sound movie.Stop grudging good movie,be sporty & accept it that its well made movie.Say thanks to sanjay gupta for making an excellent remake movie for bollywood.

Did u know this movie was copied before reading it online here on rediff?? That scenes were completely lifted from another movie - Oldboy.. or anything such as that? When you were watching the movie Zinda - at the beginning or end did the director let u know this was a movie that was not an original? I am gonna go with no. So really what your saying is its ok to steal from another man as long as you enjoy the end product! Sanjay Gupta made could be the best movie ever made .. the problem is he did not get permission to make this movie from the original DIRECTOR/PRODUCER/WRITER. Its illegal. Its wrong - regardless of whether its entertaining. Just like piracy is wrong - so is this.
