I think.
khan resembles tom hagen
chander resembles luca brasi
the plot is also similar..
the godfather refuses to help a drug deal go through. the other mafia men try to eliminate him. the assination attempts fail. His son takes over. Pretty much similar

''Sarkar'': a waste of two hours
by Omar Husain on Aug 03, 2006 08:41 AM

I suspect the director calls "Sarkar" a tribute to "The Godfather" as a
way of selling the movie. This was a straight-to-video quality film -
the characters had no depth to speak of. A love subplot was
introduced between Sarkar's son and a housemaid (I'm not sure
exactly what she was doing around the house), but this subplot was
never explored. What history did these two share? We were never
given an adequate explanation of Kurana, who he was and his
significance. We were never given an adequate explanation of why
the son, Vishnu, became so enraged at the affair between the young
stars in the film he was directing. We are never even told exactly
what the shipment contains that Rasheed plans for Sarkar's territory.
The film feels like one long exercise in exposition, jumping from
scene to scene without revealing anything about the characters. It
feels like the characters are cardboard cutouts that are mere props
for a contrived plot. My final issue with this film is the soundtrack.
Practically ever second of the movie is beset with very dramatic,
intense sounding music, without any reprieve. The music become
grating, trying too hard.

Sarkar review

Raja Sen, I am your fan. Agree with you word for word. Sarkar is all posturing, no substance - a far cry from the original.

PB`
Subject: Sarkar Vs The Godfather
by PB` on Feb 01, 2006 12:00 AM

Why is it that even if I skip whole paragraphs of Mr. Raja Sen's reviews on hindi movies, I dont feel like I've missed anything? Why is he so biased towards some moviemakers? Why does he think Sarkar is a 'remake' of The Godfather when the director says it's his tribute to the great movie? Why does he not credit Mario Puzo for the superb novel instead of all those hokum pokum column inches about Coppola and Pacino? Who is Raja Sen for that matter? Why must we read what he writes? Why doesn't he dig a hole and bury his head? How would he watch movies if he really does so? How would he 'review' a movie if he doesn't watch it? Wouldn't it be a better world if it happens so? Oh..my.. just some mindless ponderings over a cup of simmering java and a Camel Turkish Gold on a pleasant Texan evening!!!

Sarkar

Sarkar is one of the best movies of the year, RGV has done an exelent job. It was tribute to Godfather, it's perfectly Indian styled Godfather. The script is fantastic! As far as the acting goes, Big B and Kay Kay has done a great job. Those of you who loved Yuva will love to see Abhishek's acting in this one.

Godfather white washed
by Zaheer on Oct 28, 2005 05:40 PM

all these yeras Ramu said he is deeply inspired by Godfather...but when he made his inspiration he made all of us in perspiration. Sarkar can never be compared with Godfather....Godfather is a masterpiece whereas Sarkar can only be a tragedy with Godfather.Ramu couldnt do justice with the original. Had he tried making a clone, it would have been a great film. with better cast like Sanjay Dutt as Sonny Corleone, Ajay Devegan as Tom hagen..with Amitabh And Abhishek roles intact.

A Masterpiece by RGV
by Aditya Kannan Iyer on Oct 24, 2005 09:32 AM

With "Sarkar" Ram Gopal Varma has made one of the best movies in recent times or even Indian cinema. That is the greatness of Sarkar. I was simply bowled over by everything in the film, direction, performances, background music, cinematography and many more.

Coming to the performances,Amitabh Bachchan has given a mindblowing performance which will be remembered for a very long time to come. After seeing Abhishek Bachchan perform,I truly feel that he should have got more footage than what was seen in the film. Not that it was bad,but it was great to see Abhishek perform. He has great screen presence, body language, dialogue delivery and many more plus points.

RGV has made a truly memorable film and a masterpiece by any standards.Great job by everyone involved with "Sarkar".
