Comedy like jaane bhi do yaaron has made us laugh over decades. This particular movie is amongst the best comedy I have ever seen. It unquestionably deserves its place amongst Indias finest movies. According to me this movie is the Catch 22 of the Indian cinema.
Such lists from eminent filmmakers are going to have variations based upon their novelty and inherent cinematic values.Classics such as Sholay set up unparalled landmarks while creations like Ardhya Satya bring forth realities.Munnabhai MBBS should have found a place somewhere. It was first of its own genre! Dr.Niranjan Shendurnikar
Yaa, I agree that films like mughl-e-aazam,DDLJ,Sholay,Lagaan can be part of this list. But I don't think that AmarAkbar.. can be part of it. Films like Jaagte raho..,Anand,Guddi,Abhimaan,Swades, etc. should be the ideal toppers of this list. the selection criteria may be different of each individual, but the box office collection or popularity of the songs or films are definitely not the criteria for the selection of best films. the content and message given by the film are the most important for me.
I don\'t have much knowledge about the regional films other than the south..but I feel that films like Guide, Awara & Andaz(1949)have been completely forgotten by these celebs.Taking in to consideration the Hindi films it should be: 1 Mother India 2 Mughal-e-azam 3 Guide 4 Awara 5 Gunga Jumna 6 Kaagaz ke Phool 7 Sholay 8 Lagaan 9 Andaz 10 Pakeezah
unfortunately satire, fantasy films are not accepted in india. I remember seeing 'phir bhi dil hai hindustani' and 'ajooba' both real good in their genre, but failed not only at the box office but strangely at the 'pens' of media. ofcourse they could not stomach a satire on themselves.
