Ghai's list
by manu on Jun 03, 2005 01:30 AM

The list is myopic
It suggests that Ghai has never seen good cinema in his life.
Where Are :-

Mr Ghai should realize that "indian" cinema is not just "hindi" cinema.

Bias!
by Bala on Jun 03, 2005 12:43 AM

I thought this was a list of India's best films. But all I see is Hindi movies. Is Mr. Ghai just ignorant of movies in other languages or does he hate to give credit where it is due?

It is a real shame that one of India's leading film-makers didn't think it worthy to mention even a single South Indian movie. Hum Apke Hai Kaun makes the list but not Roja or Bombay or Nayakan or Beladingala Baalae or Shankarabaranam or Kshana Kshanam or Pushpakavimanam or Kaazhcha(the list goes on)... I agree it is about individual tastes and perspectives - but on this one, I think it is more than just that!

Open your mind to good cinema from other regions too Mr.Ghai.

pardes is better film than taal ....taal doesn't deserve to be in best film of indian cinema ..infact mr ghai has himself directed better movies than taal.
also he has missed out black ...which i think is top3 films ever being made in indian cinema .
also dilwale dulhania le jayenge & lagaan are among top 10 in indian cinema

hello Mr.Ghai
by Siva on Jun 03, 2005 12:24 AM

Dear Mr.Ghai,
I thought whom ever asked you to list the best would have asked for the best indian movies and not hindi movies, if u have misunderstood the question, its listen to the question again and answer it.
And if you thought these are the best indian movies ever made.i take this oppurtunity to appriciate your loyalty toward the bollywood as it is the industry which is feeding u and ur family.

Thanks and regards
Siva

by rajganesh4 on Jun 02, 2005 11:32 PM

So, now there are only Hindi movies made in India ?
Really amusing to see no non-hindi movie is all-time greats, But it's Mr.Ghai's personal favourites so, Okay!

OH God...
by Kartik T on Jun 02, 2005 11:32 PM

Oh god, here we go again. Indian cinema IS NOT only Bollywood ... agreed Bollywood is a good chunk of what it is known for, but still, it is NOT only Bollywood. If you never intended your ( Mr. Ghai's ) list to be otherwise, pls refrain frm using the term "Indian Cinema".

What gall...

Kartik.

Seems like u havent seen enuff films, Mr. Ghai
by salil on Jun 02, 2005 11:11 PM

While i certainly applaud Mr. Ghai's choice of the top-5 with Guru Dutt's classics, Mother India, Sholay, Deewar, i think the lower order is pure crap.. Taal would never find a mention even in the top-25.. leave alone top-10... tht was his best attempt to push himself into the Hall of Fame.and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai ???? yiiiiikes....

Neway, here are some movies u shud consider Mr. Ghai.
Guide, Do Bheega Zameen, Mughal-e-Azaam ( we missed tht one, dint we ? ), Aradhana, Amar Prem, Silsila,Ardh Satya, Lamhe ,QSQT, DDLJ, Dil Chahta Hai, Lagaan, BLACK,Munnabhai MBBS...

the list goes on..... i know its difficult to slot all these in top-10 and the list would vary, depending on who makes it. But clubbing KKHH and Taal wid Pyaasa, Kagaz Ke Phool, Mother India is absolutely preposterous.
