it is very clear that Saif won the award only because of his Mom... Sure, his performance was good but surely not to the level that is expected of a President's award.

I think the awards selections this time are simply pathetic. I have long lost the faith in National Awards since someone like Ajay Devgan got it, not once but twice!!
This is the most outrageuous award in recent times. Hum Tum is a below average film and Saif's acting (or overacting?) is poor in the movie. Bollywood guys in the jury do not know what is reality. There are many deserving candidates: Mammooty in "kazhcha, Ajay Devgan in "Raincoat" etc.
Saif's acting in Hum Tum was ok. But definitely not worthy of the National award. Awarding the award to him shows that rigging takes place even in the National awards. What a shame?!?
Its shameful the person who was not consider for this award in all the film industries award is given vy the government. Performace of Amitabh Bacchaan in Dev was just ignored.....
