Really good music
by siddharth sankar pati on Dec 19, 2005 01:37 PM

rang de basanti simply rocks.. one of the finest albums of 2005.. luka chupi, path sala and the title track are the best ones.. hope rahman's experimentation with music never ends.. Hope the movie is as youthful as the music..

Rehman is not overrated unless audience approves it. He gives good music, people like to listen it. It should be simple.

Good music ...Not the best but still
by kiran on Dec 14, 2005 11:34 AM  | Hide replies

The music is good and suits the theme of the movie(the theme that we know so far) ..not the best of Rehmans works when compared to Swades and Lagaan ..But probably as Rehman it depends on the director to extract the best out of him..atleast the music is loads better than the ridiculuos music of Mangal Pandey..and Yes the music does grow on you...Vintage Rehaman,,

Only if you really "understand" Rahman's music and I dont mean in any technical way..just in a more "do you GET it?" kind of a way...then you would know that his music really does grow on you...yes, not all that he creates is pure GOLD..heck..some of it is just passable..especially by his own lofty standards.
when in doubt..when you lose your faith (i know..the fanatic in me is rearing his head!)..just go listen to Vande Mataram..rahman's rendition never fails to give me chills. Listen to Rangeela and then listen to Sangamam (tamil) and then come back and listen to something out there like Kadhal Virus/Boys..then come back to Meenaxi or Bose..sheer range anyone? The sound enginner in Rahman always appears more obvious than the musician...its remarkable that he can even restrain himself at times. I, for one, love the visualization that he brings to my mind with his sound...even his melodies are so "cerebral"..not your run of the mill Jatin Lalit numbers (no disrespect)..not to mention his foot tappers!
I would never question the absolute genius of the man even if you dont like his music..simply cos I am not in the same planet as him

Rahman is overrated
by velayudhan on Dec 14, 2005 10:15 AM

Rahman is surely an overrated music director. It is more of the media who have made him "genius". It was said of the same Rahman that his music was only beating drums even while relegating the lyrics to backside. Apart from some odd albums all his albums are unbearable.

Take the example of his recent albums. None of them have fared well. The critics contend that this is because his kind of music takes time to grow. Yeah, grows like a tree! What BS!!

There is an important difference between his music and RD Burman's music. While Burman's music had "soul", Rahman's music has "sound". So, stop saying that we need to buy albums and let years pass before it "grows" on us. Stop taking the music lovers for ride.

by a.g.k on Dec 14, 2005 08:53 AM

though it cant be called great. but common u have to hand it to rahman for being so consistent. couple of songs are bad , but the rest are fantastic. and one user took the comment from sukanya on lata so emotionally. common dude nobody can point fingers at lata. but u have to realize she is queit old, she cant sing at high pitch now thats what sukanya was tryin to tell. if u listen to song u will understand
Marathi sayin donkeys.

Lata is passe. She is old and withered and her voice is appreciated by oldies like you.Trendy people like me and suki enjoy the taste of the new generation x.Alisha chinnai and other new sexy singers are our idols.Lata is the past, we need to focus on the future.
