I beg to disagree.it is not now that lata is rubbish. She has always been rubbish. She is the most overhyped, talentless singer in the history of the world. She has no knowledge of sur or taal.I am amazed at the stupidity of indians who have tolerated her for so long.I entirely agree with suki at the rest. She is rubbish and should be banned from singing. But she is over 70 now and hopefully nature will take it's course and we will be spared of her ungainly croaks soon.

Dear Suki,
In Marathi we have a saying that a donkey will never be able to appreciate the taste of sugar. Obviously, I don't have anything against the poor four-legged beasts, neither do I know about their ability to relish sweets. BUT one thing I am sure about, today, is the aptness of this saying, and how correctly it describes u and ur (lack of) musical taste....!
My dear, who is tired of listening to Lata? It's a gift from heaven, a miracle of Biology that such a one, with voice as sweet as Honey still sings. I am not just saying it for the sake of argument, just look at the sale of Veer-Zara audio. All the self-confessed divas go down under when the Grandma of melody sings as little as a note.
U refered to her strained vocals while reviewing "Lucky" and I rubbed my eyes to read the line one more time. "Poor soul, she doesn't know what she is talking about", I assured myself. And now u r at it again.
When u review a music album u should give us some reasons why you said something. Won't u agree? When did Lata "struggle to find ground"? And if that were so, why did Rehman pick her to sing?
Please explain to us mortals.

lata mangeshkar's voice WAS like honey. not anymore. especially when she sings for young heroines, the result is pure rubbish. i think all great singers should know when to stop. and for AR Rahman being overrated, i agree to some extent though i'm a big fan of his. but amongst anu malik, anand raaj anand, aadesh shrivastav etc.. i would pick rahman any day. Ismail darbar, shankar ehsaan loy and jatin-lalit are the ones on par with rahman today.

I personally will never understand how anyone can criticize the goliath that is Lata. Her voice remains the only one that still bares an eternal purity and soul that can instantly bring tears to your eyes. Her voice is not like honey it is like ambrosia which even the gods can't help but savor. Relish and respect this legend because when she passes we'll have lost the one thing that can connect us to heaven, the purity of music. With the way things are going now, Indian music will remain but a priceless relic that we will forever be nostalgic over.

I created the Rediff Id just to put my views on this topic. I couldn't believe how outrageous the comments of author are on Lata's voice. The track remains one of the most beautiful song among all the funky songs of the album. I can go berserk when somebody says that Rahman was underplaying her jarring high pitch notes. Listen to the song and then tell me who is going heywire. Lata is almost flawless and sings effortlessly. It's Rahman who doesnt fit in the song. His typical accent and voice doesnt suit to the song. Take a look when he sings "guchcha guchcha"; he goes overboard. Udit Narayan or someone similar would have been better and could justice to the song. It has become fashion statement to criticise Lata's voice. She has sung very limited number of songs lately. Listen each and everyone and you will find that fellow singer gets overshadowed by her effortless singing. People are going way western just for the heck of it. They should start feeling proud on what they have and think twice before commenting on Lata's singing.

Sorry, lata is nowhere close to what she was during her golden period. In India there is a tendency to adore people to their grave. Accepted she is a legend , a great ,and there is no disputing that. But to say that she still has a great voice w'd be like living in a state of denial. Its like guaranteeing a place for sachin tendulkar in indian cricket team even when he is past 50 years of age!
Its high time that we grow out of such emotions and look at things objectively.
