A hit or not...

Whether the movies turns out to be a hit or not, just don't send your useless movie reviewer who craps on all movies. He will just spoil it for all rediff viewers.

MUSIC - NOT A LET DOWN
by N.Senthil Kumar on Aug 10, 2005 11:07 PM

Definitely music is not a let down. The problem is people compare Mangal Pandey with Lagaan. I am sure people will appreciate MP's music after its release. A.R.Rahman music will rock after repeated listenings.

Not to forget the Background SCORE.

I personally say that MP's music is good and should not be compared with Lagaan.

MP's music will speak for itself.

Thanks.

Mangal Pandey hit or flop
by Aditya on Aug 10, 2005 10:15 PM

Historically the movies that are take too long to release and surrounded by too much hype do not make it.Having said that i would want the movie to work cos who does not like aamir khan and we would all want the movie to work for his sake considering the effort that he has taken for the role. Lets hope it is a hit.

But ketan mehta is known for churning crap stuff like oh darling on one side and a class movie like sardar on the other side. So let us wait and see.

Mangal won't be Mangal enough for Aamir..
by Mihir Mohan on Aug 10, 2005 09:57 PM

My heart says that the film will do well but the mind says that it won't. The heart says so because the movie has Aamir in the lead, while the mind says so since Ketan Mehta is the director. C'mon, this guy was the person who made "Aar ya paar", which was nothing but a sleaze fest.

Aamir is a termed a perfectionist and he does live up the tag. But somehow I do not feel that the film sets are surreal enough to give a feel of 1857. Point to note, this particular aspect was very noticeable in 'Lagaan' and 'Dil Chahta Hai'. While the former gave the viewer a feel of a drought-struck village with its rustic aura, the latter gave a chic, urbane look. "The Rising" somehow fails to give the viewer what Aamir's earlier two releases did. Having said that, I would definitely watch the movie, being a hardcore Aamir fan.

In addition, I will definitely give a note to how the director has handled him and his cast. In his interviews, Aamir has been praising Mr.Mehta for reasons best known to him. I need to check whether this is the same man who made "Aar ya paar" that lived upto its name and bombed at the B.O.

The hype created by the promos has been spectacular.Rehman's music's mediocre.

Music wud be a Hit && Movie wud be Average
by Sai on Aug 10, 2005 09:11 PM

AR Rahman's music can never be a letdown. It will take a while for the public to come to terms with it...Mangal Pandey would be an average movie, worth watching once.

Why the obsession?
by Jacob Thomas on Aug 10, 2005 08:35 PM

Mangal Pandey went down in history as a hero simply because he was the first one to rise against a brit. I think its entirely probable that his reasons for doing so are the same as those suggested by the author. More probable than not. My stand is, why do we need a War of Independence when the whole world lauds us for our non violent means to freedom? It just goes to show that the Indian ego aint satisfied with the Mahatma's ways.

What about the historical accounts of rape and murder conducted by the "rebels"? Was that in the name of freedom? oh please......

i havent seen the rising, but from his interviews, Aamir Khan seems to be narrowmindedly pro india. It would be good if the movie showed everyone the india of that time rather than a dramatic historically inaccurate (was pandey fair like a Khan?? i seem to remember studying a dark tribal) commercial. Personally, I will take back every sarcastic remark I made about bollywood if the Rising's ingredients are half as good as Braveheart's....and mind you, braveheart was given a sound bashing by historians.
