Not so bad

C'mon guys. Stop blaming the director for once. It isn't his fault that Dimple had half-baked dialouges. It all depends on the script. And as much as I know, the director didn't write the script. The movie was fine overall. And just imagine, if a giant Tsunami strikes Hollywood and all their scripts are washed away; I bet they'll thank people like Mahesh Bhat and others who made copies of their films. ;) Just kidding.

I had not heard of this movie before and picked up the DVD because of the starcast...and something strange happened, I happened to pick up Nicole Kidman's "The Others" at the same time...eerie, isn't it. Unfortunately watched the Dimple flick first..the first scene made my husband react. "oh no, this is The Others..and since we were in the mood for Hindi (also the other' dvd was in the car!) we watched on.
I don't know how many "others" had a chance to watch the two movies, unintentionally, back to back.Director saab, you had such an easy job..the screenplay, dialogues, acting, EVERYTHING was copied word to word, scene to scene. Only... you made it so BAD. At least when you copy something - and so literally, give enough respect to the original. I mean, you have already acknowledged the fact that you cannot make an original movie, then why add a Dharamendra-with-dyed-dark-eyebrows?
When Indian cinema is capable of making movies which are a class apart, it is a tragedy that stalwarts like Amitabh, Dimple, Moushmi stoop so low as to make a movie that is such a total (bad) copy of a spectacular original.

and, did I mention the annoying girl "baby" Hansika?...another time, mayb

I watched the movie and liked it. It has it's flaws and drags quite a lot, espeially in the scenes of Amitabh, who overacts like in most of his films. Of course, in India, unless something is overdone, we don't call it news (Which is why amitabh is liked by so many).
This movie has a very good and surprising concept and since I did not watch the "Others", I don't think it affected my neutrality. In fact, even after watching the "Sixth Sense", I could not get it till the revelation was done. That way, I found the direction good as the suspense was great.
Quite rightly, Hansika overacts except towards the end but Dimple does a very good job.
Horror was aplenty and most of the horror scenes were good and gave me a good shock.
Overall, I don't think I wasted my money on this.
As far as stories are concerned, what is the story of Dhoom? Sholay? anything else? All stories here have faults. The ones like Samay that have a GREAT story don't do well because we Indians are way too emotional and want the films to show the same.
Come on, this film is not for everyone. It is for people who NATURALLY like mysteries. Coming to think of it, there weren't too many chinks in the armour.

rip off fully and you will succeed
by Mayunk on Sep 19, 2004 11:39 PM

Remember the brilliant "Jalwa" with Naseer? It was not only a joke-by-joke copy of "Beverly Hills Cop" but even Naseer's expressions and language were modelled on Eddie Murphy's original. Experience has shown that movies that rip off COMPLETELY from Hollywood turn into great successes. It's only when the director tries to add his own "touch" that the product stinks.

innovative theme in indian cinema
by vpl on Sep 19, 2004 11:42 AM

this film is offbeat in the sense that it shows the world in the perspective of ghosts. so it looks refreshing and intersting. if you like a film because of item songs (better item songs are available in remixes) or the old style of hero- heroines like "kyun,ho gaya na", then it is not for you certainly. if you are a suspense-loving and moreover you love spinechilling films, then it is very good. the theme is very new in in the indian cinema. if you have not watched some hollywood pictures( not naming them because it may kill the suspense if you haven't watched yet) then i assure that you can not break the suspense even before 5 minutes of the end. it is also that suspense is not overmanipulated. yes there are many flaws, but they are compensated by focussed direction and fast pace.
my sincere advice is go and watch this movie and you will enjoy.

Movie Sucks
by grishma on Sep 16, 2004 05:59 PM

as usual Bollywood decided to copy a movie from Hollywood. and when they did, they messed it up. Seriously this movie is really a rip-off! The Others is a great movie.
