yuva music is so different frm the rest
by arun on Apr 25, 2004 05:07 PM

I think the music of yuva is simply superb.Iam sure this music reviewer must be really jealous of ARR.He took this opportunity make fun of not only the music of yuva, but also of rehmans previous compositions.
I think ARR is the best of music directors that v have today.Iam really fed up of listening to the monotonous music of Jatin-Lalit,Anu malik and the rest.
ARR dares to be different and that comes across in his music. What does this reviewer mean by "Rehmans bad habits?"
Iam sure if i give a guitar to this person, who knows nothing abt music,he wouldnt even b able to pull a string to make melody.
And the lyrics of the songs are not that bad.May b the story demands it that way.And what does he mean by "rowdy and street wise?".The song is picturised in such a way showing young people protesting against something. What does he xpect ball room kinda music?
.Probably he finds "On the roof ,in the rain" kinda lyrics more meaningfull.

Interesting

The review, if nothing is extremely interesting, and shows some amount of maturity in style and having a true critic knowledge.........And as far as Rehman;s music is concerned, Dil Se was the last OST that made any postive impact on me. Maybe it was "Guy Pratt" excellent run bass style..........OOps I forgot you people wouldnt know who Guy Pratt is. For the pseudo rocker fan, he is the "chick magnet" on Pink Floyd P.U.L.S.E. video holding that awesome bass guitar and grooving.
I totally agree with Bijoy's choice of words and his conviction at abusing it thoroughly, 'cos in the end, it is the music that matters and not the composer.

More power to you Bijoy for cranking up such interesting and honest reviews. If the music is bad, it is bad, no two ways about it.

Pathetic Bijoy
by Karthik on Apr 20, 2004 11:52 AM

An open letter to bijoy...

Mr Bijoy Venugopal,

In the first place i hve to appreciate REDIFF for having recruited you to do the music reviews. You have tried your best to give an insane and pathetic review of Yuva.
Yuva is one of the best hindi albums to have come out this year along with meenaxi. Its true that the album's sheer musical brilliance has been dented to an certain extent by the confused lyrics of Mehboob. But Rahman cannot be blamed for this.He has done his best to lift this album to the level it is.

I am sure your opinion abt this album ll change after the battering ur reviews have recd in these columns. Please think twice before writing some pathetic crap in widely reached portals like rediff. If thats not possible,be satisfied listening to monotony and crude rehashes from anu malik and co.

Rediff,Please think again if you believe if you have a good music reviewer. The one you have is about to destroy ur reputation as well as his.

Sincerely,
A hurt ARR fan.

Bijoy Venugopal - Good Columnist, Bad Music Reviewer
by JSMG on Apr 20, 2004 10:32 AM

Mr. Bijoy Venugopal, I enjoyed your article titled - CAN A MAN BE RAPED? (dated January 21, 2004) It was a real eye-opener and I just wish that all the others read it as well. After reading the music review of YUVA all I have to say is that you are a Good Columnist but a Bad Music Reviewer. YUVA as your review's title suggests, definitely shows a different Rahman. Your unpartiality just seems to have stopped with the title. After that all you do is Rahman or YUVA bashing. The end result is that it doesn't speak very highly of you. As a well-wisher (I really mean it) all I can say is that concentrate on your strength and that is being a Columnist.

I think this rahman album is an output of strong hard work and i really admire it. i started hating rahman when i found the album from where he copied the WHOLE RANGEELA songs. i got really dissapointed but Yuva is superb i think one of his best works .I am doing my graduation in music ambience
from Michigan University and i think A.r rahman is a treasure of India. Great job Sir Rahman
