Hats off to Farhan! Amazing direction. The college scenes were utterly believable (although DCH proved he was already good with this genre), but the war scenes blew me away! The grit and passion of the soldiers came through so effectively and inspiringly! Hrithik's intensity was quite a pleasent surprise, didnt think he had it in him, but hes done a great job. Preity was pretty good and Amitabh and Boman did very well in their little parts! But the real winner should be the armed forces, the bravery of the soldiers, the stark terrifying reality of war and commendable sense of comraderie and sacrifice displayed in the movie are on the mark, and make us proud of our armed forces!!

Comparisons are deceptive and individualistic! Am sure Farhan would agree to that too!

Overall, an excellent review quite unlike the editorial efforts here on Rediff!

But "Akhtar is a man for all seasons"? Even nature has given us four seasons, so isn't it too early to label Farhan Akhthar such after two movies? Esspecially because both these movies have had very very GenX themes. I am still in awe of DCH and am sure, regardless of how Lakshya does in the box office, Farhan's effort will be appreciated by the discerning viewer, because from what DCH hinted at, he seems incapable of dishing out the sweet smelling unworldly trash made popular by the likes of the Chopras and the Ghais. But comparisons and inane reviews have always been the bane of many a good movie (Rediff has been a culprit in this regard in the last couple of years), be it a Bollywood movie or a movie made in Chennai and elsewhere in India.

The average movie goer and some of these reviewers too would have no idea where these Hollywood veterans get their inputs from.

So, please desist from comparing Indian movie makers to someone from Hollywood, because in doing so, you are doing great injustice to these new talents.

Lakshya, Farhan Khan and Mr Vivek Kumar
by Ranjani on Jun 19, 2004 11:03 PM

I watched the movie with the greatest interest and aspirations. DCH was in a totally different league but Farhan Khan has proved himself as an emerging director.

I do not agree through with Mr Vivel Kumar when he says "is Farhan is slowly emerging as the Steven Spielberg of India". The file had some scenes that are not required and some drama that was not well enacted. Most importantly the photography that is so acclaimed looks like animation many a times.

I still feel that Mani Ratnam is definitely comparable to Spielberg. His movies are well rounded and I am not saying without flaws but I would watch many more movies and then compare.

But Lakshya is a very nice movie and a refreshing break from the going ons in bollywood!! Hrithik has done a wonderful job as always and people are finally seeing him beyond his face.

Well Lakshya hits the target.Absolutely scintillating & refreshing movie by Farhan Akhtar.Hrithik Roshan performs brilliantly in this war-fiction flick. After ages a director like Akhtar has crafted a film in such a fashion that can even beat some of the hollywood war movies. To sum up, `Lakshya` is that sort of film that stirs something within you without getting too melodramatic. Not before has war been treated so effectively by a director in this country. Full marks to Farhan Akhtar for finally giving Indian viewers some believable war footage.Personally, this is Hrithik Roshan's best performance to date. No one ever disputed his acting talent but `Lakshya` brings out far more of Hrithik than we have ever seen. Be it the loser 'Karan' or Captain Shergill, Hrithik looks set to be a top contender for an award this coming season. One can judge the acting when facial expressions speak for a thousand words and Hrithik Roshan excels. In all, `Lakshya` is perhaps the best war flick ever made in this country to date.

KING KHAN...PACK YOUR BAGS...HRITHIK IS HERE!
