The hoax continued
by Miko on Jul 20, 2004 11:52 AM

...mean the picture wasn't messed with during its development for a publicity stunt, but then again, you never really know.

There are so many secrets out in the media these days. Nobody's honest, and if they are you can't be sure of it. Think of all the things major programs know, such as CNN, but don't show us. CNN is owned by Time-Warner and AOL, who in 2000, donated $1.6 million dollars to get President Bush elected. And see where that got us? The Bush administration is nothing but secrets. If you've watched the press conferences, you'd noticed that they were saying the same exact words to the press and are obviously hiding something big. CNN is actually in partnership with the government.

Accuse me for being off topic, but i'm trying to make a point. We don't really know whether the offensive documentary is true or not. Many may think it's false, or a hoax, but what about other media? What about news coverages and movies like Farenheit 9/11? What don't they show you? America is full of propoganda in hopes of making large amounts of money off of their gullable viewers or consumers. Comsumers equal competition; we are a consumer nation. Many will do anything to get our money.

The hoax
by Miko on Jul 20, 2004 11:21 AM

The "documentary" is offending, yes, but as a person, i just can't help but be intrigued by it. Though the pieces seem to fit too well, consider all of the stuff they recorded that was removed. It was rude of Kahn to show the unapproved interviews and lie about himself being able to interview people and his occupation, but this guy is desparate and so is Sci-Fi. Sci-Fi is filled with trashy movies and television shows, which would explain why they aired the "documentary". And, if all of this is true, airing the video without permission would seriously tick off Night and everyone involved in the unapproved interviews. Which is why they said it was a hoax; they didn't want a lawsuit or Night made some sort of aggreement. Why would Sci-Fi want to prank viewers when their ratings are already low?

The picture the author of this article took on the fourth of july involved the distant fireworks and buildings, but the woman in the pub had the picture taken with the subjects much closer than the author's buildings, according to his statement. In the night, when a picture is taken with flash, the further away you are from the subject, the more likely you are to have a blur. This doesn't....

A Mockumentary
by Vijay Venkataramanan on Jul 20, 2004 07:32 AM

Not sure if you know this but this documentary was simply a "mockumentary" made by the producers of "The Village" as publicity for the film. It was even admitted on the press. It was nothing but a publicity stunt and most of the material here was just scripted and staged. Shyamalan's films always have a very different kind of publicity campaign. Last year, for "Signs" he did a special on ABC about fears people had, which was also a "scripted" documentary. So yeah, there's no need to take this particular "mockumentary" all so seriously.

M Night.
by Asha on Jul 20, 2004 02:43 AM  | Hide replies

I think it is a big publicity stunt....i don't know a single Indian family who would live out in the woods in an old home like that....furthermore how did the old woman get a hold of his tapes and how did it happen that there was a tape of the mysterious home with his mom telling him to come to dinner...furthermore when the filmmakers go to see the home, what are the chances that the room they are interested in has a standing mirror in it?! my two cents.....

SciFi Buried Secret Show
by cerlan on Jul 20, 2004 01:12 AM

Early on in the show it was fairly clear to me this was a "Blair Witch" kind of promo. I just can't buy it as real. Too many - and I mean too many - things should have been explored but were not. It may be true that the events that happened were just too coincidental and even the director says something to that effect in his last call - that no one will believe it. But those involved in the production have better credentials and would have explored more. Without that I can't buy it as real.

Fear drives Night !
by Mukund on Jul 20, 2004 12:15 AM  | Hide replies

Night is no doubt a talented director, but he's maintained a clean profile so far in his career. Even the Depp incident was kept under wraps. Probably the biggest disappointment has been that he could not work with Spielberg and Lucas on the Indiana Jones film. This Sci-fi documentary has been riddled with contreversy since Night walked out. Now news comes out that the Sci-fi channel has released a news statement that the entire interview was a hoax, a practical joke on viewers.

Guess we need to see the Signs for whether the Sixth Sense of Shyamalan is really Unbreakable.

Where did you "hear" or "see" that scifi released a statement that the documentary was a hoax? I have yet to read anything even though I have been looking for evidence stating as such.
