Rightly Said Kamal is the best in Indian Cinema
by Vishnu on Jul 06, 2004 08:19 AM

I completly agree Mr. Kamal Hassan is the son of Brando. He has infused flesh and blood to the character he plays. Right from the dwarf he played to the Abhay he potrayed as a sadist. In Nakayan he had all the strengths and Vulnerabalities necessary to play the character. He was fat, chewing pan, underplaying and he showed what such a character metamorphises into when things go wrong.

If anybody wants to compare Shah Rukh Khan with Kamal Hassan, Compare it with similar movies of Kamal Hassan. He is grown beyond the Chocolate hero that he once was.

jeez...

Kamal Hasan sounds like a cheap snob who seems to have ripped his "eulogy" from interviews, tributes, & biographies written about Brando in western periodicals (I have read many of those articles & I can see much similarities between those words & Kamal Hasan's writing). There was a time I liked Kamal Hasan's work especially Sadma, Sagar, & Ek Duje Ke Liye. But in past decade he hasn't done a creation worth my 3 minutes much less 3 hrs (Chachi 420 might be an exception - a nice rip-off of Mrs. Doubtfire). He seems ooze a pretentious attitude - "I am the son of Brando" I mean give me a fucking break!

And this one is for Anu in whose opinion Brando was average himself & SRK is the KING... Its your privilege to have an opinion, but come on you can't be serious. Have you seen The Godfather, Superman (as Superman's father), Apocalypse Now, & The Score among other classics? Anu, are so off in this regard that I am not sure if I should laugh or cry. One thing for sure - I am dumbfounded in your opinion. Hopefully you will watch atleast these masterpieces and get a better sense of who Brando really was - as an actor, as an artist.

Kamal a rare gem
by S. Krishna Kumar on Jul 06, 2004 08:15 AM  | Hide replies

There may be only one Brando and only one Kamal.
They are unique in their own style.
Indian audience are much luckier especially tamils, as we can watch both Brando and Kamal.
I don't know whether Brando has seen kamal's films.
He would have been jealous of kamal if he had seen 'Anbe Sivam'. Such a rare talent, variety and versatility. As it has happened to many greats in the past, Greats will not be considered Great in their period by the mindless mass only the future generations will do.
Kudos to Kamal for writing on his favorite.

Everything is OK, but 'The Score' is a classic? Come on, it's a stupidly mediocre heist movie, in which all three talented actors - Brando, De Niro, and the extremely talented Edward Norton were wasted beyond belief! IF you want to see real Ed Norton, rent 'Primal Fear' and 'Fight club'.

So Kamalhaasan ripped off all of his comments from other articles! I've been reading them, too. Can you please provide me the URLs?

I respect Kamal. Also I know that he's sometimes pretentitious. That he mentions 'suicide' often in interviews doesn't make him a sublime figure soaking in ennui. All that I can see, too. But, given the circumstances, who else is at least trying to break the cocoon? Of course we can argue that all we get from Indian movies is shit. But if I have to pick among the shits, I'm sure I'd pick out the best shit to smear myself with.

People who illogically talk of copying - please give me a break, and stop wearing Pants and shirts - wear a turban, wear a dhoti, don't wear a shirt. Travel on a bullock cart, eat Ragi muddha, use open air toilets, don't use internet, use snail mail (or even a dove, perhaps), no cellphones, and pls consider going back to stone age.

exactly,

Kamal Hasan is the best actor I have seen in Indian Cinema at this generation. He is the only person who tries to do different characters taking risk, though he knows that it wont success commercially. He puts maximum effort event to a minimum budget film and dedicates himself in acting. After seeing his latest movie Virumaandi, I got the feeling of watching an original tamil movie without english verbals and western costumes. He is a man of perfection. The maximum number of pictures which went for Oscar Awards was Kamal Hassan's (as per my knowledge), so this proves, what he is.

Kamal is definetly one of the best actors India has ever produced and he is in the league of his own. It is not worth comparing todays actors [read SRK] to a legend like Kamal. I donno what Kamal has done to Anu. Every time there is an article of him, she is there to trash him. Is it just bcos he rejected the role in MHN??How pity!!! What do u think... Kamal would act in some such stupid movie. Forget about MHN... I would like to ask Anu which of Kamal's movie she has seen to comment on him like that.

A.H. Venkatachalam
Brando
by A.H. Venkatachalam on Jul 06, 2004 06:31 AM

Marlon Brando is second only to Sivaji Ganesan in the film world. I say this as an admirer of both Sivaji and Brando. And Brando happened to be a friend and admirer of Sivaji! With due respects to Kamal Hassan, he does not possess the inherent natural expressive faces of Sivaji or Brando, which are God given gifts. Therefore, whatever Sivaji or Brando did, struck with the audience. I liked immensely Brando's comedy in `The Bed Time Story' some time in the sixties. I do not know where to place Kamal Hassan.

Ravi,

No need to counter Anu or others.
Pigs do not like clean roads.
Donkeys do not like camphor smell.
And it is not wise to shout at them.It is merely their interests.

Brando
by vijayan on Jul 06, 2004 04:12 AM

KamalHassan's problem is that he tries to make things complicated eventhough it should be made very simple. i.e. like his films which nobody understands nor gets any nomination for oscars. He has elevated Brando to the level of the god. I dont think anybody from the acting career deserve that. I suggest he make things simple which everbody understands and just not try always to be different. Life is made up of simple things Kamal Babu!!!!!
I still remember his old films which was really good but now its difficult even to understand why he makes a film!!
