Great

Its just great.I read the Review, but we need to understand that the whole movie is made to show the sufferings christ went through for us. We all know he suffered and died for us. This movie is to show how much that suffering was! So I don't think we can say that humanity & love was not talked in this movie.

Arthur J Pais is blind!
by Diana on May 12, 2004 11:04 PM

Am really sorry to say that either Arthur J Pais is blind or he doesn't have a soul. "The Passion of the Christ" is the first of its kind to be made to touch every soul around the world. And ofcourse a movie without a soul can never rock the whole world. Making a movie like Titanic is easy when compared to The Passion of the Christ, cos its really too hard when it comes to portraying unseen truth. Box Office collection is not a success for "The Passion". It is the souls of the people which were touched after watching the movie.

Where is the soul in Passion?

There is plenty of soul in the movie. This "movie critic" is entitled to his opinion but does not reflect the overwhelming majority that viewed this movie including myself. I do not consider myself to be an evangelical christian by no means. However I was very much moved by the film. I was very glad to hear that the Pope felt the same is in his simple comment "It is as it was."I recommend it strongly to cathlolics, christian and non christians alike. I will not go to a Good Friday or Maudy Thursday movie with same attitude. I better understand the sacrifice that Christ made for us. I did not come away from this movie hating Jews. I definitely will get the DVD to this movie.

The Passion
by Tojo Melville on May 10, 2004 05:40 AM

I was very impressed with Mel Gibson's film The Passion.
It followed the Bible story and the language used, Latin and Aramaic, made the film so much more realistic.
It is very violent film but Jesus' last hours very very horrifying.
I soon forgot I was watching a film with subtitles and felt engrossed in it.
I don't feel the film is causing hatred towards the Jews.
Jesus was a Jew not a Christian, we mustn't forget that. The Jews caused Jesus to be arrested but it was the Romans who caused so much torture.
Thank God for Jesus.

Arthur J. Pais gives a Soul-less review of The Passion of The Christ
by Victor on May 08, 2004 08:34 PM

Arthur J. Pais has come out with a cynical review of the movie and has completely sidelined all the good points of the movie.

Firstly, there as been no anti-Jewish violence in the US related to this film. Compare this with other violent movies that have incited violence.

Arthur compares the violence in this movie to Janet Jackson's nudity. Arthur seems to have nothing more intelligent to write.

Arthur seems to be all out to condemn this film. Not surprising, seeing that the press in the US did the same before the release of the movie. It even doomed it to failure at the box office.

Mel Gibson took a courageous stand in making this movie with $25m of his own money. Considering the fact the no producer or distributor was willing to put their money into this film.

Mel set the dialogues in Aramaic, Hebrew and Latin. If the motive was to make money he could simply make an English film like all the movies before this one on Christ.

This movie hasn't incited anti-jewish violence on the contrary it has got people to forgive each other.

Considering the fact the Jesus himself was feared by the Jewish authories and killed, it is not surprising to read this cynical review.

Dear reviewer, Which class do you belong to?
by Ashish on May 08, 2004 06:59 PM

Dear Arthur,

I am sorry for being late. But i saw the picture only yesterday as it got released yesterday in India.
The first thing that came to my mind after I read yur review is the Verse from one of Paul's letters. Paul had said (I qoute): "But we preach Christ crucified: unto the Jews indeed a stumblingblock, and unto the Gentiles foolishness:" 1Cor 1:23
So tell me Which class do you belong to?
The mindless violence that you mention in the review has been the closest to the truth that one can be. If you have felt that the Movie does not talk about the soul of Christ look again. The scene at Gethsamane;where He meets His Mother, "I make all things New"; where he prays for forgiveness. All of them depict HIS SOUL. The entire movie talks about nothing but a MAN ON A MISSION and one "who lays down his Life on HIS own"
The Movie has helped me get closer to Christ and I want to thank Mel Gibson for such a beuatiful gift to me.
The violence is something that has ben perpetual throughout Christ's life. Refer to Fulton Sheen's Life of Christ. The violent death is important for Christ's mission. If he does not die like that then WE cannot talk about HIS EGALITARIAN OUTLOOK ALSO.

12 Final hours of Jesus life on Earth.,
by Wilson on May 07, 2004 10:58 PM

No one captured the last 12 hours of Jesus life with the detail which MEL GIBSON has, It is a great movie , You need to look at the stripes which mel put a lot of focus on. "BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED" thats the message when the character jesus in the movie is bloodied after tying him to a stone. Every stripe he endured was for the sake of mankind. THATS WHERE ARTHUR THE MOVIE CLEARLY SAYS THAT THE WHOLE TORTURE AND SUFFERING JESUS WENT THRU WAS TO CLEANSE OUR SINS. Your review is very unfair, probably you should watch the movie again and get a closer look.
No offence meant to the author !
