hi deepa,
u seem to have a caustic tongue..freedom of speech&expression is an other issue.u seem to be misusing your powers.what ever the actresses parents did or whatever.. u shouldn't be reacting like this..or should i say over reacting...

Good Article
by Samir on Jun 07, 2003 05:14 PM

It has become the habit of celebs to blame the media of everything that goes wrong in their lives. If Shilpa is so saddenned by the fact that the media is making her family look bad, then she should have reacted earlier. Only when her family and her lawyers became aware that they were on a very loose wicket, that they induce this new twist.

Instead of blaming the media, she should wait till the legalities of the case are over. Till then wait and enjoy the spectacle

Save Rediff
by redifffan on Jun 04, 2003 07:57 PM

Why does Rediff hire such people to write... Isn't Deepa the same person, who wrote the review for Armaan and was bashed by readers for suggestng the film was not worth watching.... Is there any other article of hers that is worth reading????
I think rediff should think before hiring any tom, Dick or Harry.I love rediff for some of the wonderful writers (Prem Panicker, Varsha Bhosale, etc..)and when i come across such types, I just cannot believe it.

Shipa must act maturely
by Gautam on Jun 04, 2003 07:37 PM

Shilpa must understand that the media did not plan to talk about the incident, they did it because it was reported to them by the police.
Now it does not matter who is involved a film celibrity or a politician or someone from the underworld, the news is going to hit the headlines and nothing can stop it.
Shipa has to see what went wrong between her and Praful sarees.

I dont understand why would the owner of Praful sarees acuse Shilpa's parents for no reason. I dont think he needs media attention.
His business wont be affected anyway.

Why blame the media?
by Xyz on Jun 03, 2003 06:53 PM

I agree 100% with Deepa. Shilpa just wanted to vent her anger & frustration somewhere & she decided to put it on the media. The only difference between other passive media & rediff pro-active media is that rediff chose to defend their stand & did it with dignity & respect. Thank god atleast one news channel has decided to hit back & move out of the Gandhian policy of taking it lying doen. I applaud you both, deepa for giving it back & rediff for having the guts to print it. Keep it up, u are bang on target!!!

Why blame the media?
by Mahesh on Jun 02, 2003 06:38 PM

Deepa, I would really like to know if you are a journalist or a part-time-I-have-nothing-to-do-so-scribble-something-for-rediff-female ? A good journalist / columnist will always investigate the story in full and then write/publish the story.

He/She will never just get a copy of the law suit/complaint filed in the court of law against the accused, add some masala to it and publish it. This does make journalism stink.

As far as the Shetty's case is concerned, If you (or your so called trade collegues) have not bothered to contact the Shetty's to get their part of the story, and if they have now started blaming the media for it, why do you have to start cribbing and post a rebuttal to Shilpa Shetty's outburst ? is it just because you have ready access to the media and you have got the power to write anything ?

Media distorts facts, but then Shilpa- Think before you (or your parents) act!
by Rakesh on Jun 02, 2003 03:58 PM

Media has always been after BIG/JUICY headlines, speculating and distorting the facts as and when they need it. In this era of cut-throat competetion this practice of yellow journalism and paparatsism has become a part of our daily life and unfortunately we seem to have no choice other than to live with it. So, Shilpa's parents should have thought twice (or more) before, as claimed, taking any such nasty/irresponsible steps to recover any debts. They (and Shilpa too, if she is involved in it) must have thought of what consequences their celebrity daughter will have to face if their links with the underworld leaks out to the media or they are caught red handed!!
