Media
by AMJAD MARUF on Jun 01, 2003 12:04 PM

Hats off to Deepa Gahlot for the wonderful article. Filmstars like Shilpa Shetty are really hypocrites. Whenever the media praises them they don't object and the moment they are criticised the stars go on warpath against the media. Shilpa Shetty should know that it is because of the media hype that she is known in this country and not because of her acting talents (though she dances well). In any case, now that Shilpa Shetty's father is absconding it can be safely assumed that Shilpa's parents are really guilty. Even Sunanda Shetty refuses to come to India.

I think what ever is happening to Shipa Shetty is fair. As without fire thier cannot be any smoke. Yes the judicial sytem in india as its own deficiancies, But if everyone in the country thinks the same and use the unerworld that means who ever uses it is encouraging it. In the process spoiling our judical system to the next level. I think every one of us should start his or her contribution by not going to the underworld or bribge the judicials or the politiacians (jab dene wala nahi hoga tho lena wala kaha se hoga). I feel whoever is the accused to be brought to justice. Media should do its part.

Thanks

Sunil

Good points
by Nadia on May 31, 2003 07:49 PM

I think the author of this article makes some good points. If the law is twisted, then there are issues to consider about how the information has been or should have been processed from day one. The media is doing what the media does best--report news as it filters to them. I also think that it is in the media's favor and best interest to get the facts and check them twice as the saying goes. Even though she is not a major contender for the celebrity throne, her status will no doubt help in settling the case or resolving it one way or the other. The sad part and what amazes me is how some ordinary folks and their cases are sitting and collecting dust and yet these celebrities are garnering so much attention from the press and everywhere else. Maybe the law is twisted. Food for thought.

Shilpa Shetty balaming the media
by D. N. Nair on May 31, 2003 07:25 PM

Deepa Ghalot is fully correct, the media cannot be balmed. Let them tell their side of the story to all and let's see if they have any takers.

I am sure the cops have better things to do than to fabricate such stories. Truth is sometimes bitter, Shilpa.

shilpa shetty

The author of this article thinks that she is a really clever person who has put everything in its perspective. What shilpa shetty says is absolutely correct. The press is like a bunch of hyenas always looking out for a nice story, real or fabricated. I really dont know if they would have taken up this case if a common man was affected. Sp plz do try and get the opinions of both parties b4 printing something. Simply puting nice looking articles on the web will not work. The way the case has been projected implies to the reader that the shetty's are really guilty without letting the judiciary decide. Then i wonder what the judiciary is for??

Timid Article

Deepa,

I am a fan of your articles but not of this one.

You seem to be very much content in attacking on Shilpa Shetty's comments. Why fear for bold opposition?

Her parents may be right in demanding the remaining payment but not in this way. I lol when read Shilpa's comments about her parents where she has praised them. I (and all other childrens in the world) also love my parents like Shipa Shetty.I can also judge her common sense when she called Salman Khan to rescue from journalists in South Africa. It shows what kind of upbringing she has been through.

Without smoke no issue becomes such huge. There should be some truth in the claims of Saree owners. Without that no man will take on with such deadly gangsters where a killing is just like in the video game.

Your article doesn't come up with open comments. Though the case is in court our ethics and common sense can not stop from making rightful judgement.

I full support the views expresed in this article. This kind of an article was badly needed to stop Shilpa Shetty from attacking the press. It has become a habit of these so called celebrities who make money by just showing off their body parts, to attack the press. The author could have asked another question as why her father Mr. Surendra Shetty who claims to be an innocent is hiding from police? But, I think this article went to print before that news came up.

"the media has to sell stories it is their bread and butter"
How ridiculous.
A thief has to steal, it is his bread and butter...so let thieves steal...right?
And a gangster has to kill...so let Gangsters kill
how ridiculous can you stoop, in your Sadistic thirst for Villains...

why blame media
by man mohan mitra on May 31, 2003 05:52 PM  | Hide replies

Just because shilpa is famous actress , the media selects such cases to sell their news . After all with 24 hours news channels, how can they ( t.v. channels and media ) attract the viewers. It is unjustifiable to target well known actress for self interest, of media and ultimately advertisement revenues. Why say "shilpa's" mother
/ father got bail or not and why should media take help of cruches ( of shilpa name in this case )
the article whosoever has written is highly biassed and obviously influenced.

Thief may feel that what he is doing is right. But once he is caught it is a different story. The same can not be said about media

I cannot agrre with your point of view.
Today, if Mr. Suresndra Shetty and Mrs. Sunanada Shetty are known to you today, then it is only becasue of their daughters. What is wrong in telling that so and so is some one's father or mother? Are not the parents proud of their children and vice versa? Why is Shilpa blaming the press? Media is doing the right job by giving you the correct picture. Did u question why so and so is referred to as Dawood Ibrahim's brother, when the latter was arrested? Whether it is Shetty or Rai the media is neutral in reporting.
