>>There was a section of the press that immediately swung to the Shettys' defence, got quotes from industry people vouching for her parents' honesty and decency. A prominent columnist went to the extent of saying that since the legal system in the country is so inept, could anyone be blamed for asking for 'outside' help?<< That is another reason why i don't just blame the press but hate it.
>>if at all anyone is the 'villain', it's not them but the law that refused bail to Shilpa's father<< Terrorists, even suspected ones, should not get bail. This is another sentence which will make me blame the media for a long time to come. For that matter, the decency of the industry and press itself is well known.
>>the media follows what happens and that can't be dictated by anyone<< No, it doesn't. Whatever happened to salman khan's case(s)? And we know how the media is dictated.
>>the police or the court reveals the facts<< Facts? how come now it has become facts? All along this article, you have been motioning otherwise.
>>My parents are innocent and only time will prove this<< "only"? Then, why complain?
>>Everybody sympathises with her parents<< I don't. Until they are proved innocent.
>>Eventually it will be the media that will help vindicate their stand<< Why? How is the media sure their stand is correct?
>>What is annoying is that stars who get more mileage out of the media than they deserve<< This is what annoys me and others like me. That is why i blame the media.
>>country when the unfortunate episode occurred<< Again, why is the media sure about the incident being unfortunate? If te media has proofs, why doesn't it show us?
>>What makes it worse is that it is too late for us to speak, as the matter is subjudice<< Grow up, bachchee. You have already spoken enough and produed the verdict also.
>>it was revealed by the police with tapes -- possibly doctored by the complainants -- << Again, what is press' stand? Who is the press to give the verdict. The word possibly is very weak in the sentence.
>>The media have the right to cover any news story<< No, they don't. That is another reason why I blame the media.
>>The media did not manufacture this 'truth', - which may well turn out to be untrue<< Since when did the media become judge?

>>The media have the right to cover any news story<< No, they don't. That is another reason why I blame the media. I got back here because this message interested me; precisely my view...how did it come to be a norm that the media says things like "The Media have the right to cover any news story" and get away with it? I have a right to my privacy; How can some Monster (The Media) claim that it has a right to publish things that are within the domain of my privacy, and worse, actually go ahead and do so, and get away scot free, and that too with heads held high, that THEY have exposed someone else's guilt, and hence, were justified! Shame on the media, for their handling of this entire episode.
Yes i fully agree with wht Ms.Deepa has written.Shilpa Shetty has hit the wrong target.Maybe its depression/frustration on her part which shes showing.Afterall nobody likes their parents to undergo such torture in life.Though its not proper to comment on whether the Shettys have committed a crime, the best thing for Shilpa nd her family wud be to grab the bull by the horns nd fight it out till the end.Best of Luck..Cheers!! Ratish
I firmly beleive with views posted by DEEPA.In today's time media has become a way of national awakening .It is their duty to put the facts truths in front of the public and it is for them to judge what the believe .The kind of effect the media can have is very much evident from the awakening the dowry case has caused.Women in very part of the country have started to stand up against it.This was only cause of the wide media coverage that the people from all walks of life came to know about it.ITS BRAVO to MEDIA
The purpose of the article was to defend the actions of the media, but in doing so the writer makes some serious mistakes, which if published by a newspaper would lead to contempt of court?
Courts in this country are not able to be fast not because the courts are bad, but because people in this country want safety, security and rights rather than performing their duties. Take the instance of mafia in film industry,
so many cases so many people have changed evidence, and if the media covers these high profile changes of evidence, they would cry foul. this is the fate of our film industry and while defending the press from the fools of film industry the writer has passed some opinions damaging to the judiciary and lawlessness int his country, hope the author realizes the importance of a written word
