Isn't this a remake of Misery??? I dont't think it deserves to be lauded over as it has been in the review after all it is just another Hollywood rip off.
The film is a rip off of Misery, written by Stepehn King, directed by Rob Riener, the role of the obessesed reader won Kathy Bates an Oscar, the author was played by James Cann
I guess Ms. Warrier hasn't watched the movie "Misery"(1990) played by oscar winning Kathy Bates. I haven't seen Julie Ganapathy but the storyline is "exactly" the same.Hey wait a minute..No it's not entirely... The locations, cast and the people involved are different.Plagiarism is condemned in all other fields (education, industry) and there should be a way of condemning this kind of "story" lifting by Indian directors.Balu Mahendra comes out of his hibernation(after 5 years) to lift a story from another film. Well i would've taken less time than him.Film worth watching eh...c'mon give me a break!
Shobha, Even without seeing the movie and by just reading your report I can make out that this is a remake of the movie "Misery" with Kathy Bates in the lead role which was based on a novel by Stephen King. Can't you at least for the sake of un-baised journalism refer to the original movie in your article.
It has been mentioned that Balu Mahendra has not lost his touch as a director even after 5 years sitting in the dark. Julie Ganapathy is a straight lift from the English Movie Misery by Stephen King and you do not need a "so-called" self-proclaimed intellectual director to direct this film which is a frame-by-frame copy from the English movie. He might get away by saying that he got the inspiration from this movie whereas it is a scene-by-scene copy except for the usual tamil songs. Only credit to him is that he selected Saritha for this subject, otherwise even naives like ERajakumaran can direct this film.
