i would have truely doubted the standard of the oscars if devdas had been nominated. The very first time i saw the movie, i felt it was all wind with out any rain, as somebody has said in this article..the movie is just too boisterous with sketchy character mostly the ones on the sideline. I nowhere stands in comparison to lagaan..forget about he oscars...
Let's get it straight. No use expecting the rest of the world to watch tear jerkers, bunch of dances etc and nominate the film for an Oscar!

Anyone who saw Devdas..admired the sets made by Nitin Desai..As far as the film goes..The story was way out of line from the original..Can someone explain how India movies are selected and Promoted..There were plenty very good movies...why this!!!
I am happy that Devdas didn't make it, otherwise it would be a shame for good Indian movies. Gorgeous women and costly sets can never be the essence of a movie. The movie itself has to have some worth of its own.
Ha ha, forget about Oscar, Devdas is not fit for getting a national award even. It was a total "bakwaas". There are so many good films and I am sure that there must be some lobbying in sending Devdas for oscar nomination. I hope this is a very good lesson.
The people who select the movies to be representated by India should know what good movies are all about. Movies like Devdas just give a bad impression of the kind of movies we make.
Why not we take a tip from the National Football League in the United States. Many teams put together an "all stars" team just for one year - paying top dollar for everyone right upto the coach - they go all the way - win the superbowl and then they feel free to discard the team. Perhaps we should also focus on making a few movies every year just to make it to the oscars. that way, we'll also gain the reputation for quality films (along with the present quantity that we are famour for).
