Just because you make a very expensive movie with colorful, garish sets and leading actors, doesn't mean it deserves an Oscar nomination (for that matter any national award). Devdas was too loud and melodramatic to impress an international audience. It was very surprising that Devdas got selected over movies like "The Legend of Bhagat Singh" and "Company". Bhansali could pull strings at home to have his movie officially reprented, but could not cut much ice with the Oscar team.
Well... Don't think this movie was about anything except the songs and sets and clothes. It lacked a soul and didn't touch anyone... rather most people. Sarat Chandra must be hopping mad up there..!!!
devdas didnt stand a chance it is a 4 hour song and dance routine........(actually a chitrahaar)the story was old ..actually old wine in new bottle.....only thing new was....coustumes...but this is not want can earn oscars(not even in coustum category)we need something fresh .
We can't compare lagaan and devdaas. Both are different film, different story, different theme, according to me they liked lagaan b cos there are not much english words in devdaas so it is fully dub movie. so they can't catch actor's and actress's emotions as they can catch in lagaan and devdaas is a sad story so there are not many people who like sad stories.... i mean i like devdaas more then lagaan...
