LOC REVIEW
by Ishan Mitra on Jan 05, 2004 09:10 PM

A must watch film by everyone.
The performances:
Ajay Devgan as usual comes up with a controlled heart warming performance. Sanjay Dutt does not do anything special. Manoj Bajpai and Ashutosh Rana share great chemistry specially their dialogues. Sunil Shetty and Akshaye Khanna do well. Saif Ali Khan is superb. His character which is obviously real life just touches your heart with the amount of love he has for his fiancee and his country. But the person who was most likable and gave the best performance was undoubtedly Abhishek Bachhan who thinks about other peoples happiness before his. His performance is also comic oriented which gives the strenuous war a light hearted break. His performance at his death sequence touches ur heart the most. The rest of the cast is competent.
The actresses obviously do not get much screen time. Kareena Kapoor is quite good as she gets the most screen time. Next is Esha Deol. Rani Mukherjee gives a brilliant natural performance. But I think personally though Mahima Chaudhury who hardly gets a scene or two emotes so well with her facial expression during the songs that she was the best of the lot. The rest are ok.

Its a brilliant movie and songs are very touching.
I feel lucky to see and realize that while we pass/write comments how bravely our brothers fight at the LOC for this country.
My personal thanx to Mr. J.P. Dutta and the whole team to remind me about the war heroes/thier families.

Bottom line : Lest we forget.... Indians never will...
by Viji on Jan 04, 2004 04:44 PM

Whatever anyone says about the film.... I would say... Mr. J P Dutta has not strived to create a blockbuster that will make him a pot of money at the end. He is an intensely patriotic Indian who wants to tell the stories of OUR own brave jawans who die and win impossible looking wars with sheer daredevilery and patriotism....

Anyone saying anything negative about this film should first ask the question to himself... "What did I do for my country..??" Hey..!! Come on at least this guy is making a film to make us realize that while we are busy with our own cozy lives, scams, corrupt governments and ridiculous differences... there are actually Indians (our Jawans) willing to risk their lives to protect us...

For me, LoC was a touching experience... I saw the enormous odds stacked against a normal human being (an Indian soldier) and his defiant stand against all that to achieve one thing... "Vijay" or "Veergati"....!! I am really proud of my armed forces and I just wish I could emulate them in some collateral way..... I would rather watch such films instead of watching some half boiled ridiculous story about a guy and a girl frolicking around trees like immature adults.

LOC - Incomplete
by Anuj Pawa on Jan 03, 2004 10:00 AM

hw can the story of kargil be complete without a reference to our revered politicians who made money on the coffins of our jawans. while the film shows how great our jawans are, why is it silent about how abominable our leaders are ? i'd have liked the story to be complete by including a refence to the coffingate scam.

Shadab
its repetitive
by Shadab on Jan 02, 2004 01:03 PM

iam not taking anything from J.P dutta, his effort needs to be appreciated..the movie kept me interested through out the four hours..but i found the movie to be somewhat repetitive..the movie follows a "pattern" right through its running time and keeps repeating it every 45 minutes or so...soldiers talk and bond, flashback of a girlsfriends and wives, a lengthy song with more flashback of girlfriends and wives, soldiers fight, blow up paki soldiers, and then some indian soldier die heroic death!!!..and its repeated again and again till the movie ends!!
Another annoying thing i found was character first say a dialogue in english then they translate the same exact in hindi again!!..iam not kidding..i dunno if u people noticed it or not..but the movie could have been cut down by atleast 15 mins just by getting rid of this unwanted hindi to english translation!!!

What??? No SRK????
by Nadia on Jan 01, 2004 08:06 AM

So where was Shah Rukh Khan in all of this? I hope he was not missing in action because I don't see his name in the star cast list. Close to 80% of Bollywood is in this picture. How can anyone truly concentrate on the story and the message it is trying to convey with so many characters???????? Enough of this larger than life pomposity! Make a decent film, tell the story and be sincere about it without relying on these self-imposed celebrities to pull in the audience.
