ASH v HOLLYWOOD
by Shami on Apr 15, 2003 06:57 PM  | Hide replies

Ash may be a great person and a good looking gal. No one is really disputing that. The fact remains she is not the greatest actress around, i mean come on, the fact that she has only had a hand full of hits (HDHCS, DEVDAS, MOHOBATTEIN, TAAL) says that loud and clear. I think she better perform really well in the international roles she has been lucky emough to be offered. Because if she doesn't the Hollywood critics will cut her up to pieces with their comments. Even in Hollywood they admire beautiful people, but above all this they want to see talent on screen, because in Hollywood good looking women are everywhere, only the lucky few, or major talented ones make it to the top - those guy's don't like to waste money. It is a great complement to India that one of its own is going to represent it internationally in movies, but remember those from other countries have had to work damn hard to convince the 'All western' Hollywood of their worth. Even recent Oscar nominee Salma Hayek said that she faced a lot of racism in hollywood because of her accent, she had to work a good part of a decade to get to where she is, and even penelope Cruz has not made it yet. Despite having films opposite, Depp, Damon, Cage and even Cruise she hasn't come up with a single hit. She is only in the news for her boyfriend Tom Cruise. So what im trying to say is that Ash had better work damn hard on those acting skills if she wants to be more than eye candy in those films, because as Hollywood has proven time and again, it eats the eye candy up and then moves on to the next piece.

well ppl think i need to tell u guys this.. how a film fares in the box office definitely doen not tell you about the actor's ability in acting.. we have seen so many movies where the new actresses cant even act, but the movie becomin a hit.. so dun jus judge aish's acting by the number of hits films she has given us.. even though she is not that talented in acting, as kajol or madhuri.. cant u guys see that she is getting better day by day..? aish is really trying to improve herself and we can see it so well.. jus compare her acting in her Taal and in DEVDAS.. it's much more better!! not every actor is "born-actor".. as time passes we'll know who can really act and who cannot..

Overhyped stuff...

Well, i dont think Aishwarya is really worth the hype that is being made about her as an actress. She might be beautiful but i don't think that's the crieteria for being a good actress. For once if we look at her past as an actress we would'nt really find any good number of hits to her credit. She has been given the place in the jury at Cannes but i think there have been many other actresses in India who deserved that position that her. We have been introduced to some great actresses in India who really have acting in their blood. Then why are they not offered places like that? I dont think just because Aishwarya is green-eyed pretty looking girl she should also be named as a great actress.I think that's very wrong and unfair for the rest of the actresses who really deliver well in terms of acting but just because they are not Aishwarya Rai they lose the title of the 'Best actress in Bollywood'. I think we should check our crieterias as to on what basis should we judge an actress - whether on beauty basis or acting skills...

Ash definitely is a good actress when campared to her co-'s like shusmita ,yukta etc.. Her looks dominate her acting skills..but that's perfectly allright.
When u hv actresses around who neighter hv the looks nor acting skills n r vowing audiences with just their short length dresses ... Level headed Ash is definitely better-- any day.
