The stand should be appreciated and backed

I am fully with the singers. It is stupid to allow pakistani's when they do not reciprocate.. Why the hell they should be allowed to mint money when the pakistani gov is sponsering the terrorism in our soil.

Also forget the communalism and other crap.. We have seen enough of that crap in the last 50 years.
It is high time we should take a firm stand and see beyound the communist and psuedo secular eyes.

no pak singers

I totally agree with the views of Abhijit & Jagjit Sigh. I recall my observation made some 5/6 years back
when Adnan Sami composed songs for one paki film. Asha
Bhosale was his co-singer. All songs became very popular.Once I was watching PTV lollywood song numbers. The song was from same film but female singer was not Ashaji, her voice was not acceptable in the film when shown on the PTV or inside Pakistan.
This is one off insidence to support what Abhijit &
Jagjitsingh are saying.

Pak artists in India
by proloy on Apr 07, 2003 08:36 AM

While I'm not one to expect a communal motivation from Jagjit Singhji or singer Abhijit for their demand, I do believe they are getting it all wrong here. Somehow people just can't succeed in drawing the line between acts of the Pakistani govt and the Pakistani people as such. Is it the Pakistani people who have shown disrespect to Indian artists ? Show me one iota of political malice in whatever Ghulam Ali has sung so far? It'll not be denying Pakistani artists some livelihood -- it'll simply be denying ourselves the fruits of their talent.

There are unfortunately scores of such Indians who believe that no Pakistani has any business in life other than thinking ill of India and conspiring to harm India. What I suspect is that they simply try to see their own reflections in the Pakistani people.

What about the huge popularity of Hindi films in Pakistan? How would an argument from Pakistani film-artists sound if they demand banning of Indian films till the time the Indian populace also watches Pakistani films? And to suggest that Adnan Sami's videos are being funded by ISI is paranoia let loose beyond imagination, if not plain jealousy on the part of Mr Abhijeet intending deliberate maligning.

If we are not going to play cricket with Pakistan, not allow Pakistani artists to perform, why not stop stop trade also? Let there be no sugar trade, no electricity surplus offload, no gas pipelines -- cut all telephone lines also and simply forget that Pakistan exists on the map.

What people don't realise is that bashing Pakistan on every possible pretext makes the like of BJP functionaries and all those supporting them look ridiculous in the eyes of the international community, even though they may earn a few claps in their local constituency. These jokers keep suggesting that they get a moral right to attack Pakistan because of anything that the US does, but keep the armies standing and quietly withdraw them later after disgorging loads of hullaballoo.

If people can't show moderation and discretion in what they utter, and I'm hinting at the readers who are posting here rather than the artists in question, then they simply dilute their own standing. It'll become like the shepherd who cried wolf on every occasion.

what difference does it make..

Sad to know personalities like Jagjit is contaminating politics in entertainment industry. What difference does it make? If they don't let us go there. We are not loosing big market at same time we are smart enough to pull their talent. Bottom line is they are jealous of Adnan Sami.
I won't be surprise tomorrow they come up with something why "Khans" are acting in Bollywood??

Ban Pakistan Singers
by Raj Hundal on Apr 07, 2003 06:59 AM

Singers of Jagjit Singh's calibre should not have made this statement. A friend of mine brought a video CD for me from Karachi sung by Jagjit Singh. This CD containing Ghazals of Mirza Ghalib was manufactured in Pakistan by Sadaf.( www.sadafcd.net)Jagjit Singh may not have performed in Pakistan since 1980, I assume music lovers love him in Pakistan. All his albums can be bought in Pakistan. Adnan Sami and Jagjit Singh cater to two different segments of music lovers. I remember rediff carried a story when Adnan sami met Mr Lal Krishan Advani and wanted the Indian citizenship. In my honest opinion if Jagjit and Abhijit do not like Pakistani singers to perform in India, they must provide the proof that they do not have any album of Late Nusart Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali, Mehdi Hassan etc in their own collection. Singers should stand above the politics. God bless Indian-Pakistan music.
