Instead of debating how to prevent the 2 singers from singing in hindi films, i feel that we should start giving chance to local talent. It is not wrong if pakistani singers come and sing in our country. It essentially shows that in our country the music industry segregates art from political situation in the country. What is important for us to understand is the reason behind these 2 singers coming to our country to sing apart from making money. If we are able to identify and give chance to local talent this creates a competitive environment which effectively stops hooligans from operating the music industry.

Does this make sense

See if they want to expel Adnan Sami from India then the authorities should also expel their legendary actor Dilip Kumar Who is also a Pakistani and got Nishan-i-Pakistan.
I do believe that it's only these singers insecurity or maybe personal disliking.
Don't resume cricketing ties becuase people are emotional about that but ART is something which has no boundries and it spreads love.
Abhijeet used to say such things about Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who was popular all around the world. It was indians who gave love to him and requested him to make film compositions.
In my view that makes no sense.

Yes, you are absolutely right. But you know what - in keeping with what you say about Dilip Kumar - first it is Indians like you who should be expelled from India. Indians who are in India, put on the painted veil, talk like Gandhi Ji but are Pakis at heart. Please cross the border and you can keep rejoicing over all Pakistani artistes. In India we have to omany good singers. Let us first give Indian singers their due. We will turn to the Pakistani singers later on...
It is truly saddening to find Indians like you.

False patriotism
by kiran shetty on Apr 06, 2003 05:22 PM

I dont think we are insecure to the extent where we have to copy what Pakistan does. If that be the case then we shd be a dictatorship like pakistan, since that is what that country is. C'mon if these two singers[ i have great respect for Jagjit Singh, and am surprised at his views]decide that their business is effected in these days of globilisation , thats amatter of money , not patriotism.

I am shocked to read that Mr Jagjeet Singh is trying to ban Pakistani singers from performing in India!! Its very narrow mindedness and not expected from an artist like him!!

DISGUSTING!!!!!!!
by Nandini on Apr 06, 2003 12:07 PM

that's disgusting...even singers of their caliber need to do ass licking with the govt in power...if they can't see art as above petty politics what is the point of their singing....is jagjit singh not going to sing songs written by pakistani writers now....

No Pak Singers

I fully agree with Jagjit Singh & Abhijeet's view point. It really does not make any sense in inviting and promoting singers from outside India when we have many excellent singers within India. I feel very strongly about this after watching the musical program Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. I wish all those musical companies sponsoring singers from outside India had the time & patience to watch this programme and pick
the singers from it and give our young singers a fair chance.
