The people of Bengal are themselves to blame for the state of affairs in Bengal. They had chosen the Communists and now they have chosen the TMC.

West Bengal has failed and , unfortunately , continue downslide

The writer is absolutely right. From a state, which was the epitome of industrialization in the country, to the one with a bandh every month, it has continued its downslide sine naxalwadi days. Just imagine, a government with basic common sense, would have rolled out red carpet for a major project from the house of Tatas. But here was the ultimate, appeasement politicians, without basic knowledge of economics or administration, to have thrown them out.

Unfortunately, this slide is not stopping, even though CPM is out for close to 8 years and Mamta Banerjee, in saddle since them. The basic mentality of TMC is hardly any different from the cadres of CPM as both believe , not in working hard and thus making money, but indulge in gruesome orgy of blood and gore, much like the communists in 20s and 50s in Russai and China respectively. Every thing starts with nonchalant " Hobe Naa" and virulent discussions about politics, with no one concentrating upon their job: be it public or private sphere. Till the ime, there is the right work culture, backed by right thinking government, emancipation of the general polity and public, is very difficult in this state. Very soon, we will find Orissa and Assam overtaking West Bengal. Bhubaneswar and Guwahati are coming up much faster and better than the Old Lady of Colonial Raj.

This is baked up story and not the truth.

After independence, the industrial Bengal became West Bengal and the granary became East Pakistan. Hindus migrated to West Bengal from East Pakistan but Muslims of West Bengal remained in West Bengal. THe refugees from East Pakistan did not get Central Government's assistance for rehabilitation as was given to refugees from west Pakistan entering to India. There was resentment against Congress Government in west Bengal and gradually Congress lost its control in West Bengal. The Central Government was controlling grant of licence for setting up of industries and denied any industry to set up in West Bengal. Discrimination in pricing also harmed West Bengal as coal price was same for entire India but that was not the case with cotton or other commodities essential for industries. West Bengal suffered till licencing control prevailed. Therefore major discrimination towards west Bengal contributed more for industrial backwardness of independent India than nay other reason. Another major factor was, free hand given to industries in other states to deny adherence to labor laws which was not permitted in West Bengal.
The article written is only a baked up story and not the truth.

No, you are not absolutely correct and writing this just because of being a : bhadra purush" from the state. Unfortunately, most Bengalis are still living in their erstwhile dream world of 1950s and not changing fast enough to meet the challenges of current times. The state is today running because of toil and labour of Biharis and money and entrepreneurial spirit of Marwaris. The state, first , lost due to the sheer violence during naxalwadi days, when factories closed enmasse and biggest of the industrial houses moved out. Then , a whole generation , grew up without basic knowledge of English and Sciences, thus loosing out on the IT revolution of 90s.

And now in 2000s, situation is entirely different. Why will some one come to a state, with a known disdain for hard work and violent demonstrations as the Singur agitation of very recent times. Imagine a state, where youngsters can be seen playing carom during daytime. And all backed by some or the political party and assured of regular extortion in their sphere of influence. The corruption is rampant, the bureaucracy just does not work, general public is disenchanted and infrastructure pathetic. Why should an entrepreneur not starth his business in a more congenial, peaceful and laborious environment else where?

Bengal faced discrimination in post independent period as the central government refused to take responsibility to rehabilitate the refugees (Hindus) migrated from east Pakistan. When ever any drought or flood took place inn neighboring states people affected simply to Bengal seeking a livelihood. The situation has never changed even now. The state is still struggling to accommodate all poor people despite it\'s own problems. Humanity is natural in the culture o Bengal though economically poor. Today Bengal\'s intelligent youths are contributing for the progress of other states as employees and t rue vast majority of labor oriented jobs in Bengal are done through outsiders.

My dad studied in Bengal in the 70s. You should ask him about the naxal situation.
Putting your head in the sand and behaving like an ostrich will not solve problems.
