Rly pays 27% of its revenue in pension, similar is situation in each govt. deptt, financial position of the country is bankrupt due to DA linked perqs. and pension of all govt. servants and politicians. Each each they need bumper money to feed this increased expenditure. As such new new taxes are levied at the cost of poor, growth and infra structural development, When this correction will be taken.
Can railways run in losses ? never because railways decide viable fare based on sitting capacity and the length of journey. in such cases what about wait listed passenger, over crowded general compartments. railway digest all such extra income received from advwertisement, cycle stands out side stations, parcel carriage etc. so it is necessary they shopuld do proper accounting of money and time as well enabling passengers to travel sahely and timely too. we have the cheapest travel world wide. ppl pay 8 to 10 times the long term fare on suburban journeys abroad. our first class fares are 1/3 rd the charges of economy fares abroad. easy to criticize. if you want service learn to pay for it. if you want free beggar fares then you will get the same services. activists like you think govt is there to give everything free. when u get something free or near free it is is a dole not a service. so do not compare dole with service.

no one ask railways to give dole they are serving, thus its a service dont compare with foreign services.
