Bullet Train or Bull Train

India should rather improve on the existing network and improve the qualities to benefit the poor than think of a select few. Modi is hopelessly a pro-rich PM.

Because China has it
by vilas apte on May 27, 2015 11:43 AM

India must have HSR services, because China has it, & our tallest leader wants it to rival our northern neighbour. By the time tenders are floated, offers received, negotiation done, agreement signed, work order issued, it will be 2017, & by the time project is completed somewhere in the mid 2020s the cost of this will go up to Rs 110,000 crores.

You cant run Normal Trains

You cant run normal trains and talking about bullet trains. Few people have blocked the tracks for last 6 days and you are counting your achievements. People will teach you a lesson in next election soon.

YOu suffer from premature excitement?

Suresh Prabhu clearly said that Railway funds won't be used for it. It will be funded by Japan, ADB, etc and run in PPP mode. So why are you crying?

Whoever wants to travel by bullet train will pay and travel. If it is making loss, then it is not government's loss.

Personally even I don't think bullet trains are needed at this stage. But I don't care if some private companies, Japan, ADB, foreign pension funds want to invest and build the bullet train network. It will create jobs in India.

Bullet trains will not be run by private companies. They will be run by Indian Railways. Just funded by long term loan by Japan / China. Check your facts. Nowhere has the government said that Bullet trains will be owned and managed by private companies.

If there is a loss Railways will not give Guarantee. It is a Biz risk to be taken by the entrepreneur. Though i disagree with bullet train.

The owner takes the risk and reward. In this case Bullet trains will be owned and managed by Indian Railways. Losses, if any, will be to the account of the Indian Railways.

Only 90,000K ?
by Ahi Sen on May 27, 2015 11:33 AM  | Hide replies

To fulfill dream of Mr. Modi to have Bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmadabad the expenditure should not pose a problem. After all the property will remain with the state. The train will be an attraction to pull visitors to both the States by which even the hoteliers and other business may develop creating job for unemployed. The country can afford to spend this small aamount to fulfill the dream of a PM.

True.

The biggest advantage will be the showcasing of Indian technology (bought outright from China or Japan) in running trains with speeds above 130 kmp which is the max speed of Rajdhani currently. I'm sure the tourists (especially from India) would love to see bullet trains in India (even if they won't be able to sit in one because of high cost of the tickets).

Did i hear someone mention poverty? Well, that's a small price to pay in front of national pride.

PLEASE ABANDON BULLET TRAIN PROJECT
by rukkueye on May 27, 2015 11:26 AM  | Hide replies

i request PM and ALL THE MINISTERS to abandon this project immediately. focus on improving the existing basic facilities and increase the speed of our overall network. improve the tracks, safety system, double tracks, better railway coaches, platforms, etc. 150 to 180 kph is good enough for us in present scenario.

That is what they are doing.

Bullet train will be funded by ADB, Japan, private investors and foreign pension funds which have lot of money but no place to invest. Bullet train is not going to be funded by Indian govt to any significant extent. Most of the money will come from external investors.

Right now I am sitting in Vijayawada for work and want to return to Delhi. But train tickets are full and airfare is costing 11,000 rupees. I would also spend nearly 1000 rupees for taxi to the airport in Vijaywada and Delhi. I wouldn't mind paying 6,000 rupees to travel by bullet train if it existed.

Basically bullet train will help businesses run more efficiently. It will save many man-hours and airfare money.

Just lay more tracks and increase average speed of important trains from origin to destination to 100 kmph. No need to invest money in fancy bullet trains. The US, Canada and Britain do not have such mode of transport.

That is what they are doing.
Suresh Prabhu clearly told in interview few days ago, that govt is not going to fund the bullet train.
He is focussing on doubling and quadrupling of tracks to increase average speed of current trains.

Bullet train will be funded primarily by Japan, ADB, foreign pension funds, etc.
