It is very nice to read about so many rich people in the country to talk about charity and also follow it practically. But then why there is no change in the life style of about 60% poor population of the country. People still are dying with hunger. Children are still out of schools. Every body is not getting medical aid. Where is the impact of charity? Where the money donated by these rich people is going? Is it going to the pockets of corrupt leaders and bureaucrats or to their (charity people) near and dear ones only.

Absolutely right you are. At the sane time what about the not-so-known billionaires but are not far behind, e.g., the politicians, so many! and the filmstars...., the players etc etc!
These people put the money in to their own or their family own charity causes so that the money spent shall be with them and they get name as a greatest doner
If these people are giving so much money to the charity, So how it is used should be declared. Except Tatas, we can not see any visible signs of charitable activities by these people. Just these are publicity tactics nothing else.
all put together the figures mentioned is about Rs108250 crores and we still have poverty led slums and unhygienic conditions in many parts of the world. These charities are only in numbers and are looking for a return out of it. Nothing goes waste for a business men / women

for 50 crore poor or 100 crore all, it is 2164 or 1082 Rs.per person. What can happen in this. It is the good gesture that has to be welcomed. We are poor because we do nothing except criticise every one

Please note the fact all these total wealth will be a "micro" fraction of wealth of Karunanidhi families (immediate, extended and further extended etc.)
Charity is meant for the poor , the underprivileged, the needy, It is a moral & a social responsibility of such donors to create a mechanism or a foolproof process to ensure that the donated money reaches the needy & the poor, Otherwise I will be surprised if there are no scams happening in this area of huge amount of funding without proper fund management & controls, As of now, I do not see such huge amount of benefits reaching the needy, Where & how is it utilised, God knows
