All the car makers sadly do not see one of the big reason for slow growth..India Infrastructure.If they ,collectively force the government to invest in good roads, especially city roads, a good number of additional buyers will buy their vehicles.
I bought Indigo GLX in 2009. Couple of years fine, but the kind of trouble, costs which I ran up in the last 3 years to maintain the car and the kind of poor customer service which I have experienced across various authorised service centres in Chennai, has shattered my confidence and liking of TATA Motors cars. Guys do under or overbilling and even asks Clients money for fudging bills. Labour costs are atrocious many times expensive than parts. Diagnosis and rooting out the cause of problems and rectification simply doesn't happen. I was passionately looking at Nano as a second small car and also change from INDIGO to Manza or now Zest, but the experiences I have had doesn't give me the confidence or enthusiasm to go for TATA once again. The poor resale value of Indigo also reflects the lack of positive perception or confidence or enthusiasm. Need to observe and learn from various competitor's and also Customer's feed-back. I would like TATA Motors to win back what they have lost....
Given the profession I am in, I get to meet, talk to and see real people on the shop-floor production, maintenance who make automobiles and how they go about their thoughts, work, decision making and implementation. Although my interaction is not with the designing and marketing teams, the responses of the work-group I deal with reflects in a sense their company philosophy for sure.
Among the several automotive giants like Honda, Suzuki, Volkswagen, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Toyota etc. I have involved with, I do see a distinct laid back attitude in some of them including Tata Motors. Not really open to new ideas, a huge hierarchy for simple decision making, old-school culture are some of the prominent features.
I can clearly see very different type of open-mindedness, clarity of purpose, enjoyment and pride in what they do, quick decisions (yes / no) in some of the rivals of Tata Motors and extremely likely because of that, they are highly successful and quick to progress in just about everything they do.
I do not think it is just the core leadership that is making or failing Tata Motors. It is largely the deep rooted conservatism down the line filtering to the production that is defining the situation.
They call 100 times just to remind about our installment payment and the great CRs are so irritating that they talk like mechanical voices over and over
I put all their numbers in reject list, then started getting SMS like - "we are trying to reach you, please pay your next installment to avoid overcharges"
I hate TATA for this, though I have a good respect for their efforts
