Why cannot the Government do house to house survey and issue the aadhar card. People find it extremely difficult to stand in lines for hours together. Many times people get discouraged seeing the big rush. Senior citizens like me who do not have good health cannot stand in the Que even for 15-20 minutes. Please find a remedial measure and make aadhar card simple.I have my pan card and pass-port and what is then the proble for govt. to issue aadhar just based on these documents.

That's the tragedy. Everyone need all services at their door step on the cost of tax payers money. This tendency of not standing in line is the big reason for all corrupt practices.

I saw many people in my life who are not doing anything for himself. So how can we expect that they can do something for country?

No need to go door by door. Just open more enrolment centres. Waiting to enrol adhar card from last 3 months, but at centre there is long long queue and not getting my turn.

Exactly, I'm of the same opinion Govt. should issue Aadhaar Card based on PAN Card/ Voter Card which are also issued by them after lot of scrutiny.
After reading all the comments of readers on this article, I strongly sense that getting this Aadhaar Card is extremely difficult and a handicapped person like me can never get it without a struggle for it. In India nothing can be simplified for common citizens since, our useless Govt. BABUs and brainless/senseless ministers can't do anything and can never bother because they get everything at ease and that too at their doorsteps. Everything is difficult for COMMON CITIZENS but everything is possible for CRIMINALS...!!!

De-duplication is the core of this project. Lapses in this parameter can mean death of the project.

Cron job will run in scheduled intervals which will detect the duplicates in finger prints and eye scanners.

People who aren't technically as knowledgeable as you are might take it as "Con job with a typo".
This statement is wrong. We have enrolled once and after 2 years we have been asked to enroll again. It is disturbing the individuals to get away from their activities periodically due to the mistake from the enrollment center/authorities. If called for second time enrollment, the UIDAI should reimburse the expenses to the individuals.
has anybody every thought about the level of risk posed to every individual who has all his biometrics and all other personal information linked to a single database which can eventually be sold to MNCs or even hacked/stolen by international hackers.
how would you like to be identified by a unique number just like live stock animals bred for butchering or collecting eggs or milking?
why doesn't anyone talk about high possibilities of identity thefts likes of which are already happening in the USA due to the social security numbers?
there are several organizations and individuals who have boycotted the unique identity system due to a variety of reasons.
think a 1000 times before voluntarily getting tagged by a number for a life time.
Re: what about the risks and disadvantages?

It is incorrect to think all the information of individual is stored in one database.
Fact is, Aadhar is just a number that uniquely identifies an individual. When any individual wants to avail services from any service provider Aadhar number will be mandatory and the data pertaining to that service provider (say a bank) and this individual will remain with the service provider. Only to investigate any misuse these will be looked in conjunction viz., if an individual has taken gas connection from HP and Indane to claim subsidy from both the places, such connections will be weeded out by comparing data between two providers. There is no provision to store any transaction data within Aadhar database except for the bio-metrics and the document details (ID and Address proof) that the individual submits at the time of registration.

Objective of Aadhaar is to collect the information of every individual to serve them better as per each individual requirements. Risks will be there even if we switch on lights or fans in our house.

the hidden objective is still hidden from the common public, so everyone wants to get 'tagged' by an id so that eventually the government can control their activities from a single control room.
at the same time, if the government doesnt have the machinery to protect all the information, on what basis are they risking the future of the ppl?

That is more to do with the corruption oriented system. There is a transparent system for booking appointments and getting hassle free registration done.
However, what is lacking is an escalation plan. People are clueless if they are unduly harassed by the staff in registration process. This helplessness is encashed.
High time, project leadership deploy a help desk to handle grievances and provide multiple channels to book a registration time slot viz., online, tollfree number etc.

Already we have our Finance Minister is backing a parallel project "National Population Register". I fail to understand how are these different.
