FDI or no, looting is still #1
by Bodh Ramdeo on Aug 19, 2012 10:44 PM

FDI is not a bad thing, as long as it goes into actual infrastructure rather than the bourse for quick returns and repatriation of profits.
Funny how, when it goes against them, the Kossmissars of Khangress brand the authors of the study as "being too old", yet the big brass of the so-called 'grand old party' are a bunch of aged, hide-bound dinosaurs, whose only goal is power for the sake of power!
And to stay in power, they allow any criminal who commands seats in parliament and willing to support them in power, the total freedom to loot this poverty-stricken land with total impunity.

FDI in retail - Need of the time for India
by Abhijit on Jul 30, 2012 09:55 AM

Current Situation -
Farmers holding very small portion of land, can't afford automation.
Farmers very less educated, could not understand market needs, could not do farming as a business.

Agents, Middlemen, Govt officers buy agriculture produce at very cheap rates, throwaway prices.
At the same time they sell at very high prices to end consumer.

End consumer looted by everyone.

Same situation for other services, small enterprenuers, etc.

Community based trade - Particular communities involved in trade from generations. No entry for business minded people.

What FDI will bring -
Direct buying from farmers, farmers will get ideas about market before sowing the seeds. Agreements with retail giants and security of price for produce.

Consumer will be benefitted by getting produce at lesser rates.
Entry to business minded people in trade.

Agents, middlemen, Govt officers nexus will be broken.

Next Steps -
Do not oppose FDI. Initially big MNCs will be benefitted like Walmart, etc. After some years Indian players will become a part of market.

Remember, the people opposing FDI were the same who opposed every progressive things earliers like Computerization, entry to MNCs in India.
They gave same reasons at that time also like they will loot India etc.
Fact is that if you do not consider these industries in India's growth, India is as good as a third world undeveloped country.

FDI DOES NOT DO CHARITY, THEY MEAN BUSINESS, PROFIT MUST.
by subrata banerjee on Jul 29, 2012 02:45 PM  | Hide replies

Why FDI is interested to come and invest in different sectors in India. It is not like that they want to offer charity, instead, they are greedy to reap heavy benefit from an underdeveloped country like India where population is huge and only 4/5% of total populations would have halped them to pull huge profit. While there is a very very limited scope of expanding their business in their own country because of the following reasons:- 1)very low population, 2)complete recession, 3)to do the business in their own country they have to follow the stringent rules of the market failing of which heavy penalty will be levied.
So, I fail to understand why present government is so much eager to destroy their own country by inviting these FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT in different sector which will become a great headache of indian poors in neatr future, if they are allowed at all to invest.

The kind of FDI India receives helps none
by Ujwala Kulkarni on Jul 29, 2012 11:46 AM

India receives most of its FDI in stock market, insurance, colas, telephony and similar inconsequential sectors where the investors see large margins and profitability - not in sectors where it is really needed like power, infrastructure etc. India receives billions in FDI, while Pak receives billions as aid. It's not the same. India will feel the pinch when profits are repatriated and when there is a flight of capital. What will happen to the FOREX reserves and the value of rupee then?

FDI does nothing but loot the country like coke and pepsi pesticide in cold drinks, and makes us mental coolie.
Why not criticize the shameless government that loots the public and does no development instead of worshiping all things foreign.

@S P,

Yes. The companies mentioned by you bring technology also.
Technology doesn't necessarily means something mechanical, electronic, gadgets.
It can be a methodlogy to identify market needs, design product, manufacture it, arrive at perfect pricing, sell it and earn profits.

These MNCs particulary American MNCs are good in it.
Indians learn business from them and now giving a good fight to them in their domains. Do you think Wipro, Infosys, TCS are surviving just without these things?

It Is Time.,...
by Girish K on Jul 28, 2012 11:34 PM

It is time someone punctured this 'FDI is panacea' bubble. No nation can become great just with foreign assistance, leave alone foreign capital. As long as we generate a race of imitators whose claim to fame is their command of English language, we will firmly position ourselves as a Third World Nation.

India and Indians in general cannot afford the luxury of having much of a choice in terms of jobs!

That much ought to have been very clear to everyone!

Those who have completed graduation in engg.......etc. still form a miniscule section of the country's youth!

And the quality of their graduation and their employability are far short of what is required to enjoy choices!

This is the problem is not FDI but corruption that is apathetic to development. There are many project that the government can initiate that would progress development and give jobs, give employment and end serious problems like malnutrition, health problem, electricity shortage, education.

Big projects like irrigation schemes that would make farmers earn good money by increasing agriculture output increasing GDP and productivity.

Second funding research university against the current trend of teaching university that are less dependent on government funds. Big project fund that are initiated by these university, do studies how to develop the nation.

This basic do development then progress, give up the babus mentality of thievery of its own people. Insult British who produced nothing progressive except steal, lying , cheating, piracy, Drug dealers, hook or by crook, might makes right philosophies , with savage history of genocide and hatred. Progress will come when society does not honor thieves scoundrels, and murders. It is basic flaw of this society that a Salman khan ca run over 9 people kill them and still be honored film actor who dates actresses. What are you teaching youth love of criminals.

No wonder there is no progress in society because you love criminals and honor them.

FDI itself propels corruption. Enron, for example, admitted that it spend Rs.60 crore in Educating Indian Pliticians like Sharad Pawar and Bal Thackeray

Mandan Loga, Chinas growth is fuelled by domestic savings. China create more jobs than India. Although China get more FDI, the proportion of FDI in total investment far less. That shows that for real job creation we need domestic capital

FDI creates bubbles and flies by night to destroy the country

How about not giving copies of report on RTI & only after HC order ! This reflect usual suspecious working-cult of congress.
With merely 2.5 % of Indian investor's money in stock market, the real game is of freigners,so by FDI and all such type of notions, country is inching towards slavery.Afterall they will not come for charity but will escalate like sensex from 2000 to 20000 level.
