With just 18 cars per thousand, the roads are clogged and traffic jams are routine nuisance in all cities of India. What will happen if we have above 500 cars per thousand?
The author should have paid attention to density of population, vehicles per kilometer of road, age of vehicles etc. to arrive at a sensible comparison. Nevertheless, the article gives some interesting facts.

Almost all the countries shown here have more cars that the licenses issued. Car license serves the basic form of ID. And unlike India you can't survive in these countries without an ID. Which means every person who is physically and mentally fit and more than 18 years will have a driving license.
The markets are saturated in these countries. They can't sell more cares there. Like it or not, they will sell cars in India going forward.
I just can understand the commonman, media and columnists. They are bothered about corruption, bomb blasts, flood water etc.
The most important thing to be discussed should be the health of our Hon.Chairperson of UPA.
I prayed to all the secular gods to bring back the Hon.Chairperson of UPA safe from which ever country she went to on August 2. She is not a person to miss the parliamentary session. She is a great nationalist and wouldn't miss the independent day celebration. She is not a person who would run away from some silly agitation lead by some old man called Anna Hazare. But she did.So it must be something very serious and she appeared only on the morning of the last day of monsoon session of the parliament.
Where was she? What was her ailment? Has she fully recovered? Has she got people to wash her linen? Does she take the medicines regularly? These are the most important things to be disussed in India. These topics are of international importance and I'm very sad that nobody is bothered about it.

Media is purchased, now the only option is MPs ask the questions in the Parliament but they are also purchased. Now some one can file RTI, but u r not going to do it and neither am i, besides RTI may be rejected on the basis that its a personal issue and cannnot be entertained. So there u go, may be everyone knows the end result.....
U dont expect Annna to do another fast for what went wrong to an ex-waiterss !!!

She had gone for the treatment of cervical cancer, which is caused by HPV, a virus transmitted sexually. If you want to know more, use google.
By calculating only the GDP growth, the government and economists are blosting that India and China will be worlds' Number one. Is anybody able to explain what is this GDP growth and its impact on total growth of country and its population. Compared to other developed countries we are far behind 80% people of India are below poverty line. Though a slight increase in GDP becomes the super hit slogan of government and economist.

You have been fooled already. How can you expect 75% of the population owning cars in a country where 45% won't make enough money to pay taxes...in other words 45% live in poverty.

GDP cannot grow by leaps and bounds suddenly.. it's a slow process. We are growing at 8-9% per annum, and it would take us 20-30 years of sustained growth at that pace to reach a decent level. We need policies which can sustain that growth over time.. we need better infrastructure, new cities, education, healthcare, better legal system. And for that land reforms and lesser govt intervention is required. Govt should only be involved in things which are necessary and not poke their noses in industry and open them up for innovation and for market forces to take over.
On our side in Gorakhpur, driving licences are obtainable through brokers. No needs of tests. And that is reflected in the traffic. No one follows rules and there are massive jams. The RTO offices clerks have bank balances which will put any one to shock. If the per thousand cars even reach 50 in India, in city like ours there will be a chaos unfortunately. When licences are issued to such untrained drivers, we are sending govt. approved 'killers' on the roads. I really hope these RTO guys are made to walk the streets and travel the highways were so many accidents are happening. In fact accidents must be one of the major preventable cause of deaths. I wish the authorities will take notice. But is our corruption wrought and corruption tolerant society, who really will look into this. :(
