already done
by Li Na on Nov 16, 2011 11:21 PM

i'm sure the scientists would have worked hard...but it has already been done. infact, there's even a plant in sri lanka for it.

basically, polythene bags are made from petroleum, basically, they are reversing the rxn. And it's a great way to dispose off plastics too!

Now from where!
by Chamarthi Srinivas on Nov 16, 2011 07:36 PM

Now from where these high temperatures are to be produced??? it needs a lot of coal. when the basic combustion material like coal or gas is getting over, is it a common sense to use these scarce and valuable material to turn garbage into something equal to itself??!!
rather sensationalizing these childish expt one should wait for a ROI evaluation and feasibility study for mass scale production before reporting!!
remember few years back it was announced that Indian scientists worked out superconductivity @ room temperatures and ended up having mud on their noses!!

Petrol from plastic
by K Natarajan on Nov 16, 2011 07:26 PM

The work on non-degradable plastic conversion to petrol is a welcome development. The work should be given all the support to realise on fast track a practical industrial setup to productionise the development. The development will achieve the dual purpose of disposing plastics and putting it to produce the much needed petroleum products.Let us huury up before others catchup with us.

Kangress has fooled the People of India

India has abundant Energy Indigenous Energy Sources :

1) Indigenous Bio-Fuels.

2) Also, India is blessed with Solar energy in abundance.

3)The numerous waterfalls in the hills and mountains of India can power thousands of micro-hydro-power-stations.

4) The long coastline of India can be used to harvest tidal-power from the ocean currents.

Many decades ago, India could have achieved energy-independence, Like Brazil has.

Instead India continues to import crude-oil from the Arab nations, thereby pouring the India tax-payers' money into the coffers of the Arab nations.

Meanwhile, poor India coal-miners labour in wretched, unsafe coal-mines to mine coal, which is then used to power polluting thermal power stations.

The Kangress has pulled a massive Bio-Bofors on the People of India !

The Kangress Government will sabotage any attempts that India makes to become energy-independent.

On every single barrel of crude oil that is imported from the Arab countries, the Kangress earns kickbacks.

Therefore, the Kangress will do everything it can to ensure that India continues to import Arab crude-oil, for ever.

This is why Biofuels were quietly killed off in India, because if indigenous Indian Biofuels had succeeded, India might have become energy-independent like Brazil, and would have stopped imports of Arab crude-oil, and that would have ruined the kickbacks for the Kangress.

Chris, Its a pity that you do not even display ur screen name. I wish u were born in Pakistan so that you would have wished a government like what we have in India. Had it not been for leaders like Nehru, Indira and MMS, India would have been in similar condition like that of pakistan or bangladesh. Tell one good achievement of BJP for their governance so far. They just divide people and then halts the development of that region. Gujarat was the second most prosperous state after Maharashtra till late 80's and now it is like the 6th in the list behind AP, Karnataka and TamilNadu.
