About Ratan Tata
by Krishnendu Biswas on May 23, 2011 04:02 PM  | Hide replies

This Ratan Tata once in West Bengal was praising Left Front Government and even wrote several open letters to the then gov. stating that for Ms Mamata Banerjee is not allowing the state to get developed. Now yesterday he send a letter to the new chief minister stating that she only can lead the state to the improvement. This is Ratan Tata. Once CPM was his most favourite party. Today he has changed the side. Did he not think about the poor people when he snached the cultivating land of the farmers of Singur? Atlast Mukesh Ambani has not built his palace by snatching poor farmers'land.

You havc a point on farmer's land acquisition, however land acquisition there was done by WB state govt. not the company.

Ratan Tata knew very well that he was going to setup the project in the lands of poor farmers which were acquired forcefully. Where was his humanitarian face that time?

Tata is a business leader with humanity at heart.
by CrystalClear on May 23, 2011 04:02 PM  | Hide replies

Capitalist society has cons too. Mr. M.Ambani is an example of that. He ha monoply in petrochemical based polymers and control the market & govt. on its demand-supply & pricing. Govt. could have installed polymer crakers, but was influenced by RIL not to do so. Plastic manufacturers depends on RIL to run their factory, the day they import granules, their inland supply is affected forever in India. RIL buys cheaper oils & fuels from govt. oil companies and sells back to them at market prices... however RIL has done no wrong as govt. is responsible for this. However one can wonder govt. can follow this policy by having political elections etc. in mind.

All said and done, power yields influence & monoploy but should be used in constructive way, RIL is smart company to utilise path to success by hook or ..., but there should be healty competition in market. Political influence (e.g. Sterlite industries case on purchase of Crain Energy required RIL's informal permison etc. are bad for economy).

Tata is company with humanity at heart. They follow sound principles of business in cut-throat competition but with social responsibility.

Our business leaders should ponder about philathropic & social dvelopment of country as well. Inequality is not at all good for society as it leads to huge social/ anti-social revolutions, history has witnessed that.

If TATA is forced to choose either K.V.Kamath or Nira Radia as part time or temporary chairman as Infosys did, who would TATA choose?.

Tata passenger cars lack the refinement and quality. They do a crude job in car making and pass it on to the gullible consumers. Going by all the facts now coming out, all that they profess to be honest in all their dealings is far from true.

Well said Grinian. I wish people should educate themselves a bit more before commenting. TATAs have given this country a number of institutions. TISS, TIFR, TMH to name a few. How can anyone even compare TATAs with a company like Reliance.

Well said,
by Gopi on May 23, 2011 03:57 PM

Well said Tataji. Instead of building such an odd looking structure, he should have started a money transfer scheme for the poor. Half of poverty in India would be eliminated. Govt would save a lot on maintaining the statistics of BPL(below poverty line) people. Although this would create more lazy people in India would be a different matter atleast, India can boast of developed nation, thanks to Mukesh's intelligence and Dhirubhai's legacy.
