Other western countries workers work only 8hrs/day and they donot stretch beyond that.If so,they are taking off to compensate it.But we work normally 10-12 hrs even though not getting compensation

I completely agree. They are the hardest working people i have come across. I have first hand experience of their hard working nature.
When u have Corrupt most Politicos the Toiling masses bound to be Hardworking to meet hand to mouth. All the money the Nation earns are Looted by Politicos and Bureaucrats along with their handpicked-mafia-business schemes. Naturally the people have to work than they really need to,just to generate more , just to survive.

Actually it is not so bad in India. The grouse is not that work doesn't get done, the grouse is that nothing gets done without greasing the palm.
If the palm is greased, then atleast in cities like Mumbai, things move fast and the people you have mentioned work as well or better than MNC trained people.
It is a matter of which fuel is being used. Vitamin M works... everytime!!
It is not the question whether Indians are hard working,the question is "whether the aam admi of the country is exploited or not? whether he is forced to work hard for survival or not?"
Indian farmers still plough in the field with pair of bullocks.
Indian poor still carry sack of onions and cements in their back for the daily bread.
Indians are made to work 6 days a week and 12 hours a day.
This is sheer exploitation of the human being arising from illiteracy,poverty and lack of opportunity.
Human beings need not work like slaves,the system should work.People should have a better quality of life.They survey projects a grim picture of our bitter reality !

Sure, there are so many poor and lower middle class people getting exploited. The state of poor labor class is very bad indeed. But there is also a huge number of people who do not work or work hard. This averages out over whole population.
Its Holiday at work with additional income ( Bribes/Haftha etc.,,,) so they do not take leaves. so do not think indians as hard working. I hve read in a magzine Private airline operates wth an average of 300 employes per aircraft were as governament or PSU airlines operate with more thn 1000 employess per aircraftthis is what we call as hard work.
