For a seven seater, don't you think it is under powered?

If they use the same FIAT diesel engine as in Swift / Dzire / SX4, they would get least 90 bhp.

I think so, you are right. For a 7 seater, 1.3L engine is less. Maybe a ramped up version of OMNI van, disappointing.

Anything wrong in taking that for lunch?
Goans and Uttar Kannadigas are also quite fond of fish curry.

The above pics are concepts only shown in 2010 auto expo. Maruti will deviate from this(ref. A-star).a possible launch at 2012 auto expo??

RIII will be smaller than aria/xylo(not mini), so can not be compared.
7 lacs price tag wud enourage many, with features mentioned... need confirmation.

Still Waiting for Maruti to go GREEN
by Prasenjit Chakravorty on Jul 05, 2011 02:22 PM  | Hide replies

So what's new? The whole world is moving to Hybrids / Electric Vehicles / Alternate Fuel vehicles ( like Fuel Cells). But here is one company, a monster created by the Govt of India, which is either immune to petrol / diesel price rise, or completely bankrupt when it comes to launching eco friendly / non fossil fuel powered cars. Maruti dumps 1 lakh cars a month on our roads.Imagine how much imported oil can be saved if this company conciously decides to go green.

maruti first make sure its air bags work..there have been many incidents when air bags didn't work...excessive cost cutting might be the reason.

Good Design
by Shyam Sunder on Jul 05, 2011 02:11 PM  | Hide replies

Looks and design appears good. But power appears too low. There is another model Maruti Eeco, but it comes without AC and people have difficulty getting AC fitted in it. It is not clear whether this will continue in this model too.

1.3 litre only?
by satarupa sen on Jul 05, 2011 02:00 PM  | Hide replies

The engine volume of 1300 cc is too low especially for diesel. Will it be able to go up a slope with 7 passengers? Chevy Tavera has 2.0 litre engine; so does their sedans Optra and Cruze. Think about it Maruti - go to 1.6 to 1.8 at least.

Maybe the author of this article pulled the 1.3L fact out of thin air? Some of these authors have no idea what they talk about.

Re: 1.3 litre only?

Actually it is a 1248 cc diesel engine from FIAT.
Generates 90 bhp.
A Ford 1.4 diesel is still at 68 bhp.
Tata Sumo started with a 68 bhp engine, now with turbo charger has reached 90 bhp.
Check the power of Optra and Cruze. Should not be much more.
What matters for a diesel engine is the torque it produces.
Check out the comparison of diesel engine sedans on any auto website.
